5,000 square foot exhibit that uses biomechanics of complex animal robots to demonstrate how real animals work. The larger-than-life-size animated robots include a chameleon, a rhinoceros, a giant squid with 18-foot tentacles, and a platypus. Also featured are a house fly with a 10-foot wingspread, a grasshopper, a bat, and a giraffe. Animation in the robots imitates real-life behaviors. Open through September 8. Review / Pics / Video

Bloomfield Hills Weekend Events – Doom of the Dinosaurs Exhibit

Family-friendly, interactive exhibit! The Cranbrook Institute of Science Dinosaurs Exhibit tells the story of the Earth’s past mass extinctions and explores the prehistoric times when dinosaurs ruled the land. Children will enjoy activities created just for them. Visitors will see full-size dinosaur skeletons, including Tyrannosaurus Rex and Edmontosaurus, and walk through the five large-scale mass extinctions that occurred over the last 500 million years. 80’s-themed Glow Night. All paid climbers will receive glow attire and visit the glow paint stations are always popular. The big hair marathon, totally tubular toss, and 80’s music trivia will entertain and amuse. Enjoy the evening air as you head into Heritage Park after dark at a Full Moon Friday Night Hike. Listen for nocturnal animals, observe the night sky, and heighten your senses along the way.
