Sloan Museum Titanic The Artifact Exhibition review, pics, hours, and info. Titanic The Artifact Exhibition in Flint is the latest exhibit at the museum and is open through September 3. Originally, this exhibition was to be open from January 20 through May 21 but was extended due to popular demand.
I attended Media Day to preview the exhibit, which was breathtaking. Within the exhibit, there are no photos allowed. However, we were allowed to take pictures on Media Day so I’m sharing them here to give you an idea of what you’ll see at the Sloan Museum Titanic exhibit.
Many of us are well-informed of the events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic. But, this artifact exhibit at Sloan Museum brings the experience to life.

Once you arrive, guests will receive a replica White Star Line ticket belonging to an actual passenger. The boarding pass has a true passenger story on the reverse side that tells you about that passenger, why they were traveling, etc. You may also take a pic on the green screen upon entering and receive a photo at the end with a Titanic backdrop.
Throughout the Titanic artifacts exhibit, visitors can view the artifacts that were found 85 years after the Titanic sinking, from 2 miles down on the ocean floor. The Titanic artifacts were retrieved from debris fields on the ocean floor. Nothing was taken off the ship since it’s considered sacred ground. There were many dishes retrieved because the ship broke at the kitchen and the dishes all spilled out. More than 5,500 items total were gathered and many are on display at Sloan Museum in Flint. Some of the artifacts are displayed with the actual photo of when they were found.
In addition to the artifacts, visitors may read historical stories about passengers and quotes from the captain, passengers, builders…, view re-creations of a first class and a third class suite, touch a giant ice berg, and more. There is also a very interesting recount of the sinking – the several ice warnings and times they were given prior to the big hit and the process that led up to the infamous exclamation of “Ice berg right ahead!” are all on display.
TVs within the exhibit run a continuous loop of an underwater footage exploration of the ruins as well as video footage of a reenactment of the sinking.
Historical actors stroll through the Titanic exhibit during open hours. Visitors can ask them questions as they portray actual passengers. The passengers vary and include the well-known Ida Straus and her husband Isidor, the owners of Macy’s who are seen in the Titanic movie as the couple lying in bed as the ship sinks and Ida says “We have lived together for many years. Where you go, I go.”
As you near the end of the exhibit, you will see a beautiful memorial display that lists the number of survivors and those that perished, along with their names.
Tickets to see Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition are: $14 adults, $12 seniors (60+), $11 youth age 2-11, $10 ASTC, $5 members, free children 1 and under. Veterans/Military Families/Teachers: $7 adults, $6 senior (60+), $6 youth (age 2-11). Audio units are available for purchase to tell you more about certain parts of the exhibit (marked with an ear icon). Due to contractual agreements, there are no discounts or free passes accepted for this exhibit. Tickets to the exhibition are timed. Advance purchase is recommended.
