Where is Topinabee?
Topinabee is TINY community located in Cheboygan County. The community is centered along M-27 / North Straits Highway and is sandwiched between the beautiful Mullett Lake and the equally gorgeous Burt Lake. In essence, it’s just north of Downtown Indian River, and just south of Cheboygan.
Café Noka Topinabee Review
We love going a little out of our way when we’re Up North to find “secret” and “not-so-secret” places to eat that the locals love and the tourists hope to discover. Café Noka isn’t the biggest secret, but not enough people know about it. We first learned about it from a local Up North news station (9&10 News) that did a feature on it.
The restaurant looks like a small house from the outside and and the inside is a cozy log cabin. Did I say small? Café Noka has only 6 tables plus space for 4 at the counter. 20 customers and it feels crowded, I’d say the capacity is about 35. They do offer outside seating when there is enough waitstaff available to accommodate outside diners.
Noka Cafe Topinabee serves breakfast & lunch 7 days per week. They’re most-known for their breakfasts. Hearty, 3-egg omelettes of every kind (including make your own), stacks of pancakes, french toast, breakfast sandwiches, steak & eggs, the Noka Crepe, plus all the a la carte breakfasts and sides that no diner should be without. Good portions, great prices.
Café Noka has added a lunch menu through the years and it continues to grow. They offer signature deli meat sandwiches, tuna melts, patty melts, pulled pork, burgers, chicken strips, fried shrimp baskets, salads, and more.
Like Brutus Camp Deli in Brutus, Michigan… Café Noka Topinabee offers a breakfast experience that people “downstate” just can’t find (or beat). Everytime we eat at Cafe Noka, it feels like we’re part of secret club.
PRO TIPS – Bring cash (no credit cards are accepted) and arrive early. It’s a small place and it fills up in a hurry!
