Get outside, explore and have fun with this monthly program for children 7-12 years old at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center.Learn about birds, starting fires, stalking animals or catching insects, each month will focus on connecting with the world around us, deepening naturalist knowledge and learning new outdoor skills. Wint Nature Center Puddle Jumper Series – at Wint Nature Center at Independence Oaks County Park 248-625-6473. Children ages 3-6 can enjoy nature fun as they increase their love for the great outdoors. A naturalist will engage children with a story, nature talk and related activity. Each child will receive a craft kit to take and make at home. This series meets the second Friday of each month. Cost: $4/child. Call 248-858-0916 weekdays to register. Madison Hts Holiday Tree Lighting
Madison Hts Holiday Tree Lighting is Hosted by the City of Madison Hts at Civic Center Plaza at the Gazebo. The Mayor will welcome Santa and present him with an official key to the City. Visitors will enjoy cookies and cocoa while listening to seasonal music. Following the tree lighting program, children may wish to get their photos taken with Santa and Mrs Claus inside the Breckenridge Room of the Library. As this event is privately sponsored, the Mayor asks the community to help keep this tradition going, by making a donation payable to “City of Madison Heights – Christmas Light Fund.”. Skating – Weather permitting and bring your own skates. Admission is $5. Skating is FREE, skate rental is $8. Winter Park has much to offer including tubing and $17 glow tubing (appointments required), ice skating (weather permitting, bring your own skates), hot cocoa, bonfires, food at the Farmers Kitchen and more. Tubing (unfortunately) isn’t FREE (it’s actually quite expensive) and you have to pre-register which takes the starch out of a spur-of-the-moment experience.
