Wint Nature Center Mini Naturalist – Children ages 3-6 can have some nature fun as they increase their love for the great outdoors. A naturalist will engage children with a story, nature talk and a related activity. Each child will receive a craft kit to take and make at home. Suitable for ages 3-6. $4/child. Wint Nature Center Ice Fishing –  Enjoy Michigan’s free winter fishing weekend by trying the exciting sport of ice fishing. Begin by learning how to operate ice fishing equipment and then try to reel in some fish. Because the program takes place on a free fishing weekend, no fishing license is necessary. Program is suitable for school-aged children and adults. $8/person. This program meets at the Independence Oaks Boathouse. Pre-registration with payment required. Call 248-858-0916 weekdays. Wint Nature Center NatureFit Snowshoeing – at Wint Nature Center. Learn about the history of snowshoes and then hit the trail for an afternoon of winter fun including a guided snowshoe hike and campfire. Snowshoes provided. Participants must wear boots. Appropriate for ages 5 and older. A winter hike will be substituted if conditions do not permit snowshoeing. $6/person. Pre-registration with payment required. Call 248-858-0916 weekdays. Wint Nature Center Spring Star Party – at Wint Nature Center 248-625-6473. Join the Oakland Astronomy Club for a safe, fun, family-friendly night under the stars. Telescope eyepiece sharing is not possible, so instead we’ll share close-up views of the moon using club members’ telescopes, video cameras, and screen monitors. See some great views and learn fun facts about the night sky. Bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on. Suitable for all ages. No on-site registration available. Meet at Moraine Knoll. $4/person. Wint Nature Center Happy Birthday Lorax – Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. Enjoy a reading of the story before taking a stroll to observe the world around us. Learn about ways to protect the birds, bees and trees. We’ll end with a craft that you can take home and enjoy. Suitable for all ages. $5/person. Pre-registration with payment required. Wint Nature Center Sap to Syrup – A short hike to learn about the history and learn how some sugaring tools are used. Then, sample different grades of maple syrup. Some sweet maple treats and take-home maple-based recipes are also on the menu. Some tasty treats may be made in factories that process nut products. This program is suitable for all ages.
