Bloomer Park Making Maple Syrup – 11a-12:30p OR 1p-2:30p (2 sessions to choose from). Learn the first steps to make your own Maple Syrup. From identifying various species of maple tree, to the tree tapping process and sap boiling setup. You’ll leave with all the knowledge you need to make your own syrup and the Spile, Tubing, and Bucket to tap your own Maple Tree. Indian Springs Metropark Maple Sugaring: Sweet Science – 3 sessions per day – 11a/12p/1p. 248-625-6640, metroparks.com. Travel out to the woods to see the tapping of maple trees, sap collection, and visit the evaporator to learn about the boiling of maple sap. This program is entirely outdoors and runs every hour. You can expect to walk about one-mile on gravel nature trails. Social distancing and face coverings are required. Dress for the weather. $3 per child, $5 per adult, children under two free. All Ages. Pre-registration required 3 days before each program online. A Metroparks vehicle entry permit is required for these events. Daily & Annual vehicle permits are on sale NOW. Red Oaks Nature Center Maple Magic – Maple syrup is an icon of our region. Learn to identify maple trees, take a hike to tap a tree and taste the sap. We will teach you the tools, tips and methods needed to make your own batch of maple syrup at home. Taste some sweet maple treats and take home maple-based recipes. Van Hoosen Museum Sap to Syrup Pancake Breakfast – at Van Hoosen Museum. Three one-hour sessions – 9a, 10a, or 11a.
Visit the Museum at Van Hoosen Farm to see an old-fashioned sap-to-syrup from trees tapped right here in Rochester Hills. Sample some real maple syrup and enjoy a pancake breakfast complete with sausage, juice, and coffee. When purchasing tickets, please specify which sessions you would like to attend.
