We found Hoppies Landing and were excited to go since it had exactly what we were looking for – it had the local feel and it was located right at the runway of the Pellston airport – totally unique! Hoppies Landing Pellston has an observation deck overlooking the tarmac. Plus, the dining area has a wall of windows so you can watch the flights come and go. Sure, it’s not a busy airport, but it’s still fun. As a matter of fact, it’s so small there’s only one ticket counter, one seating area, one baggage claim…that’s my kind of travel! Seriously, Pellston Regional Airport looks more like a hunting lodge than an airport. It’s a shock to the system to those who are used to Detroit Metro Airport.

Hoppies Landing Pellston is a family-friendly restaurant with a multi-game arcade machine, shuffle board table, and a welcoming menu that offers plenty for everyone in the family – sandwiches, pizza, burgers, fish, grinders, salads, steaks… I ordered the chips and salsa appetizer and loved the thin and crispy tortilla chips with just the right amount of salt. My husband ordered the cheese bread. For our entrees, we got a burger and plank grilled whitefish. Although it’s very casual, there are nicer plates in addition to the burger and pizza options, e.g. there was a Prime rib special when we were there, and the plank grilled whitefish was such a nice option and I really enjoyed it.
We can’t wait to take the kids when we go back next summer. Hoppies also has a second location on Burt Lake in Cheboygan MI called Hoppies Tavern.
