Leonardo da Vinci Machines in Motion at the Michigan Science Center

This exhibit takes msueum-goers deep into the world of Leonardo da Vinici’s inventions. Each is built to full-size, functional, and some are even operational. Working from da Vinci’s notebooks, scientists and master artisans in Florence, Italy, built each creation using materials and techniques that would have been available during the Renaissance.

The exhibit explores da Vinci’s work with elements of nature in his personal relationship with being a sculptor, musician, engineer, anatomist, and artist. Earth, Water, Air, & Fire are represented with the inventions.

Leonardo da Vinci’s Machines in Motion exhibit isn’t just fun to explore, it’s also interactive. These working machines are meant to explore and try out. Kids (and adults) of all ages are welcome to turn the Archimedes’ Screw, create paper airplane prototypes in PlayLab, use da Vinci’s gears for lifting pillars, and even crank the pedals on da Vinci’s bicycle.
