New York Minute Chinese restaurant is mostly for Chinese food takeout. You can also eat your order in at the window counter, but it’s not really a dine-in restaurant. The market sells all kinds of Chinese foods and products as well as dinner ware.
I read about New York Minute Chinese Restaurant online and the reviews were pretty consistent that the food was the best Chinese food in Clarkston, and even in Oakland County. That’s enough for me to give it a shot.
Upon entering the store, the counter at the center of the store is where you’ll find the menus and place your order. There are several selections to choose from…way more than what you’ll find than if you research it online. There are lunch specials from 11-2 Monday through Friday that are served with fried rice and an egg roll. Some options include Organ Chicken, General Tso’s Chicken, BBQ ribs, Sweet and Sour pork, and much more…ranging from $5.99 to $6.29. Dinner specials have a few more options (e.g. shrimp with broccoli, lemon chicken, etc.) and are larger portion sizes. They are also served with fried rice and an egg roll.
The New York Minute Clarkston Chinese Restaurant full menu includes traditional items sold by the pint and quart, such as cashew dishes (available in chicken, pork, beef, or shrimp), Hunan dishes, Lobster Kow, Curry dishes, and so much more. I ordered the General Tso’s Shrimp. Honestly, I have not seen this served anywhere before. General Tso’s has always been on of my favorite dishes, but I prefer shrimp over chicken. Now, I can do that. And, even better, they don’t deep fry the shrimp. They lightly coat it with corn starch and then fry it so it gets a light crispy coating on it rather than the heavy batter coating. It was awesome.
The customer service at New York Minute Chinese Restaurant in Clarkston is great. It’s also quite obvious that New York Minute Chinese Restaurant is a frequent stop for regulars because all the people that came in while I was there knew the owner by name and would chat with her for a bit as if they were just as excited to see her as they were to get the food.
