At Oakland University Health Careers / Health Sciences Careers camp, high school students delve into the broad range of health careers and develop essential leadership skills through interactive problem solving, hands-on activities and real-world scenarios. Discover how interests in the natural sciences, social sciences and more fit into the diverse world of health practice and care, and how each and every position makes an impact on individuals, communities and the world.
Students will discover the many health fields within the four departments of the Oakland University School of Health Sciences: Interdisciplinary Health Sciences – where life and health interest intersect; Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences – serving the sciences of clinical determination; Human Movement Science – advancing and restoring physical function; and Public and Environmental Wellness – pursuing society’s big health challenges.

Through an on-going case study, students will explore specific careers – physical therapist, exercise scientist, environmental health and safety specialist, public health professional, medical laboratory scientist, health imaging specialist, nutritionist, health care coordinator, physician assistant, physician and more – and discover the impact that each distinct area has on health, and how disciplines work together to achieve patient outcomes.
In addition to spending time in the cutting-edge labs and classrooms of the state-of-the-art Human Health Building, students will explore the beautiful campus of Oakland University to get a feel of what college life could be like. From talking with current students and graduates in the School of Health Sciences about their experiences, to meeting with advisers to learn about resources and discovering the ECLIPSE leadership development program unique to the School of Health Sciences – this camp provides high schoolers with not only career exploration opportunities, but also invaluable insight to gain a jump start on their future college journey and health care career.
