Side Door Saloon Petoskey Review
The Side Door Saloon has been around for decades, but just changed into a restaurant nearly 20 years ago. It used to be just a bar.
Other bars and restaurants along US-31 near Downtown Petoskey come and go. The number of restaurants that arrive, change owners, change menus, change names, and then ultimately close for good is astonishing! Yet, Side Door Saloon Petoskey remains a popular attraction for vacationers (and plenty of locals). There’s a reason for this…
The Side Door Saloon is known for its olive burgers and boasts that it has the “world famous olive burger” on the menu. The Side Door Saloon menu also has entrees like steak and fish, salads, Mexican dishes, sandwiches, and more. There is a full bar with house favorites and Moscow Mules, great selection of wines and beer.
Every dish served looked great but we couldn’t pass up the burgers. We ordered the burgers with the olive mayo. The burgers are cooked perfectly and the olive mayo is the bomb. Any burger that is offered with bacon is served with Plath’s bacon which is the best local bacon available from Plath’s meat market. You can’t go wrong with this menu.
We’ve been to Side Door numerous times on our trips through Petoskey. The restaurant itself is cozy inside and the floor is jammed with tables. It’s usually crowded but the atmosphere is so comfortable that you don’t mind the people. There’s still room to move around. The clientele skews older, I’m in my early 50s and often feel like the youngest person there.
The Side Door Saloon gets pretty busy on a weekend night. But, the staff can still manage to provide excellent service unlike other Petoskey restaurants. I was honestly impressed at how well-trained and managed the entire staff is during busy times.
The prices at the Side Door Saloon are reasonable compared to what we find that we normally spend eating out lately. The restaurant also sells their pint logo glasses.
There is an outdoor patio with seating available for outdoor dining during the warm months. It is fully covered and lit up with Christmas lights inside.
Side Door Saloon Petoskey – Our ONE Gripe
However, even with all that said, there’s one big con at the Side Door Saloon… they have no fryer in the kitchen, so they don’t serve any fried foods. The staff mentioned something about that when they converted the location from bar to restaurant, they didn’t have room for a fryer?! Burgers are instead served with a side of chips. To me, burgers without fries is like peanut butter without jelly. The staff seems completely willing to not add french fries (or any fried foods) to the menu. But… who am I to argue? They’ve been in business for decades.
