Thai Orchid Cuisine Petoskey
The Thai Orchid Petoskey menu has plenty to offer including the typical Thai faves… pad thai, pad se’ew, drunken noodle, fried rice, pad pak, and more. The menu is easy to sort through since it is nicely organized into categories – appetizers, soups, entree dishes, house specials, noodle dishes, fried rice, curry dishes, duck dishes, and seafood dishes.
Thai Orchid Petoskey is a good news, bad news Downtown Petoskey restaurant. The good news? In a nutshell, the food is excellent. The bad news? The portions are a bit small and the hours are difficult to deal with.
The portions at Thai Orchid Cuisine fall on the smaller side compared to “downstate” Thai food places. Typically, when I’m dining out for Thai food, I can get two meals out of one order (especially carryout). Here it’s one very full order, meaning you can finish it but feel very full after. I’m also used to being served shrimp chips and soup before the meal, but Thai Orchid Cuisine does not. Everything is a la carte.
Thai Orchid Cuisine Petoskey – Mmmm! Yummy
I ordered my usual – Pad Thai. I got it with scallops, which were plentiful, and the scallops were a nice large size and cooked perfectly. It was a good dish overall, but a little sweeter than what I’m used to for Pad Thai.
My husband ordered his usual Pad Se’ew with beef. We appreciated that the protein part of the meal had a nice presence. But, here’s what was odd… we both ordered our dishes medium spicy, but my husband’s was way hotter than mine. Did our server think I said mild? I was pretty happy though since medium proved to be pretty hot compared to what I am used to at other Thai restaurants.
The food at Thai Orchid was fresh, and served super fast. Service was very friendly and you could tell this place has a good reputation as almost all of the tables were full at 8p on a Saturday night.

Thai Orchid Cuisine Petoskey – Mmmmm! Yummy but issues
When we’re “Up North”, we’ve visited and received carryout from Thai Orchid quite a bit through the years (portions of this review were written way back in 2014). Lately we found ourselves hoping someone would open up a competing Thai food restaurant in Petoskey. Again, we LOVE the food at Thai Orchid, it’s just that… there isn’t enough of it. The value isn’t there.
In addition, ever since covid, they’ve reduced their hours from 11:30a-9p and whittled them down to 3:30p-8:30p. So, if you’re hungry for Thai food at lunch time (or past 8:30p on a Saturday night). you’re out of luck! The prices, like other restaurants, have gone up substantially since covid. I understand inflation, but Thai Orchid’s prices have gone up far higher than competing restaurants.
Lastly, since we’re up in Petoskey a great deal of time, we’ve noticed that Thai Orchid takes a lot of days off. There will be days, weekends, and even weeks where they decide not to open. Usually they take a long break in the Fall but we’ve noticed even in the summer they’ll have a day or two where they just won’t open.
Thai Orchid Petoskey always lures me back though… the food is too good and, let’s face it, there aren’t too many other Thai food restaurant options in Petoskey (for now).
