The Thirsty Sturgeon Wolverine – Thirsty Sturgeon Bar and Grill review, pics, hours, and menu info. Thirsty Sturgeon is located off located off of S Straits Highway right between Indian River, MI and Wolverine MI (much closer to Wolverine). It has a warm, casual, log-home or lodge atmosphere complete with wood throughout, and wooden tables and booths.

The Thirsty Sturgeon Wolverine Review

The Thirsty Sturgeon has been around for about seven years, and has been so busy they’ve expanded four years ago with an addition so they could accommodate the customers. This restaurant is the talk of Petoskey, Indian River, and Wolverine. When I ride by it during summer weekends, the traffic flows out into the streets with people all along S Straits Highway just to get in. We had to see what the fuss is about.

OAKLAND COUNTY MOMS NORTHERN MICHIGAN TRAVEL REVIEWS

The Thirsty Sturgeon offers classic American foods on their menu such as burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, entrees and more. There are specials each day, and some that are buffet style like the taco bar and the all you can eat pizza buffet.

The Thirsty Sturgeon is more than an “Up North” bar food restaurant. Between the pizzas and burgers fare you can find pan-seared Atlantic Salmon, BBQ Buffalo Meatloaf, Tarragon Halibut, and other chef specialties often dotting the menu.

The food is good and restaurant cooks put their own twist on things by adding a touch of creativity to some of their menu options, e.g. the Mac Daddy burger which is Mac n Cheese (see pics) stacked high on top a burger, with some Plath’s bacon and melted American cheese. Their entrees are definitely their own creations. You will find seasonal dishes such as butternut squash ravioli with a sage butter cream sauce, or other unique creations like Beer Cheese Walleye, Whiskey Mushroom Pork Tenderloin, a 21 layer 2 pound lasagna dish… and so much more. It goes beyond what’s on the menu as the chefs put together special offerings. The desserts are also very tempting… the triple chocolate cheesecake looks like a must-try.

The Thirsty Sturgeon has a nice sized grounds surrounding the restaurant. They’ve built a nice outdoor patio, and a horse shoes and corn hole gaming area for customers to enjoy during the warmer seasons. Of course, the view of the Sturgeon River is very pretty.

The restaurant doesn’t consider themselves a bar so they close a lot earlier than you’d expect, or you’d want to. They closed at 8p on a Thursday night (???) that we went (just after summer season ended). Spring and summer hours are one hour later. The bar is underrated, the mixologists we’ve encountered at The Thirsty Sturgeon know their drinks… and have quite a few tasty (and near-lethal) signature cocktails to back them up.

The Thirsty Sturgeon is an all-seasons restaurant. In the summer you’ll bikers and boaters by the dozens. Spring and Fall finds clientele from the local trail riders and Fall hunters. Winter brings in snowmobilers by the dozens. It’s always a fun crowd, no matter what the season.
