Aztecas is a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant (but in a good way) that seats about 80 people. It has dollar store cardboard cutout decorations and it’s nothing to write home about. But, the staff was kind and offered great customer service. It wasn’t overly loud so my husband and I were able to enjoy a nice lunch with great conversation. And, the food was tasty, VERY tasty.

The tortilla chips at Aztecas Shelby were pretty much what you’d expect, nothing over-the-top fantastic. I liked the salsa. I loved that it was not chunky. It had a nice pureed texture to it. I also liked how they bring out three squirt bottles of salsa so you can help yourself and make your own creations. One bottle of mild, one bottle of hot green salsa, and one bottle of a hot orange-ish red salsa. I made the perfect combination of mild with a touch of hot salsa.
I ordered an Azteca chimichanga and my husband got the Azteca Mexican pizza. The food was good. The rice was somewhat bland, but everything else had lots of flavor, quality and freshness. They have very reasonable lunch prices for $7+. And, you can print coupons on their website or find them in the local coupon mags you get in the mail.
Overall, Aztecas Mexican Restaurant in Shelby Township was worth it and I can definitely see me and my husband going back for a nice lunch together. There’s nothing fun or exciting about bringing the kids there, but if they like Mexican food, Aztecas has a kids meal menu that includes a drink and you can choose from a quesadilla, burrito, or chicken tenders.
