Best Oakland County Motorcycle Roads

Best Oakland County Motorcycle Roads – The best roads and places to take your motorcycle in Oakland County, Michigan. Our favorite Oakland County MI motorcycle trips, destinations, and videos.

I love being a “motorcycle mama”! My husband and I like to wait until traffic lightens up and go on mini trips throughout the summer in and around Oakland County. Most of our trips are for sight-seeing or restaurant hopping. Here are some of our favorite Oakland County motorcycle roads… This list will be updated frequently so check back often!

Note: some of our longer trips take us into other counties and most originate near our Rochester Hills, Michigan home.

Orion Road – The newly re-paved Orion Road is my favorite. Scenic, smooth and challenging! Despite being a relatively short trip, Orion Road has tight turns, beautiful views, hilly straightaways, and a smooth surface. I like to start out on Rochester Road just south of Downtown Rochester and cruise north to Orion Road. I take Orion Road straight to Downtown Lake Orion (don’t forget to stop at Sagebrush Cantina in Downtown LO). The winding jaunt of Orion Road gives way to a straight-shot of Lapeer Road. From there I take Lapeer Road south to Silverbell east to Adams. Then Adams north to University and then University east back to downtown Rochester. This trip has it all in a relatively short trip. You get the 2 downtown visits in the trip, winding roads, low-traffic, and a speedy Lapeer Road.

Rochester Road North to Lakeville Rd – Rochester Road isn’t all traffic and strip malls. Take Rochester Road just north of Downtown Rochester and get ready to open up the throttle! Easy riding and just one traffic light all the way to Lakeville Road! The road gets super windy near Lakeville so be careful. Rochester Road comes to a T at Lakeville Road. I like to head west. West takes you straight to Downtown Oxford where you can take Lapeer Road north or cruise south through Downtown Lake Orion (where you can pick Orion Rd home), or take it further south if you want to keep driving the fast straightaways.

Lakeville MI to M-53 (Van Dyke) – This is a long afternoon tour! Start in Downtown Rochester and take Rochester Rd due North, virtually traffic light-free for 8 miles until you reach. Lakeville Road. Head East (right) toward Macomb County along Lakeville Lake and reconnect to Rochester Road (north). Follow Rochester Road through Downtown Leonard until you reach General Squier Rd. Head East (right) through rolling hills and farmland until you’re in Downtown Almont at M-53. This is where I usually hang a right and take M-53 through Old Van Dyke  into Romeo to head back toward Rochester. If you go left, you’ll cruise through Downtown Almont and head through “The Thumb”.. Just south of Imlay City is an awesome roadside BBQ place that is only open on the weekends. You HAVE to check it out – you can’t miss it (and you’ll see why)! This particular “tour” has fantastic aspects… speed, low-traffic, few traffic lights, rustic downtown views, and plenty of places to stop. You’ll feel like you’re touring Up North Michigan.
