Bird And The Bread Birmingham Review – pics, and menu info. The Bird and The Bread restaurant is located off South Old Woodward near Maple street in Downtown Birmingham MI. I attended a media event recently and got to check out this new restaurant.
UPDATE – The Bird And The Bread in Birmingham is now CLOSED – the restaurant became Vinotecca
The interior of The Bird and The Bread is very modern and stylish and completely remodeled. The space is accentuated with black pipe, wood and earth tones that give off a comfy and cozy feel.
The Bird and The Bread menu is quite unique and all made from scratch. The head chef, Jim Leonardo, is also the Executive chef at Jonna’s Vinology Wine Bar and Restaurant in Ann Arbor, under the same ownership. As chef, he set out to create simple ‘hearth oven’ cuisine with pure flavors and less ingredients. Think slow-cooking dishes. He has put together some unique plates such as Liver and Onion Pizza; Quinoa Stuffed Onion with swiss chard and tamarind broth; B&B Paella with quail, shrimp, mussels, saffron rice, and chorizo sausage; and Seared Sea Scallops with risotto milanese, tomato confit, and lobster viniagrette. For starters, you can enjoy Grilled Octopus and Calamari, Paté and Pickles, and Beets and Ricotta. Apps average $8-$9. The other entrees are $7 salads, $13 pizzas, $6 soups, $8 desserts, and main plates that range $13-$32.
The Bird and The Bread also has a kids menu that is a far cry from the typical Mac n Cheese or hot dog and fries. The healthy and delicious kids menu includes Cashew Butter & Housemade Jelly Sandwich, Baked Rotisserie Chicken Kabobs, Beef Brisket Not-So-Sloppy Joe, Black Bean “Chili” Burger and more. The average price for a kids meal is $6.
The Bird and The Bread has a huge drink menu… probably one of the largest I’ve seen. It’s a 10-page drink list that includes cocktails with fresh juices and housemade syrups and shrubs, draft craft beer, bottled beer, wines that are rotated seasonally, and spirits.
At The Bird and The Bread, gluten-free options are listed as such on the menu and so are the vegetarian options. And, you can also customize most menu entrees to suit your dietary needs. The staff at The Bird and The Bread is very willing to work with you.
The Bird and The Bread also has a banquet center for rent that is available as one large room, or one smaller room, or one medium sized room (see pics below).
