Borden Park Rochester Hills Sledding
Borden Park’s sled hill is not really a structured or outlined sledding hill per se. The north and west side of the park is surrounded by a large hill embankment to keep it secluded from the surrounding main roads… kind of a noise barrier from when the park was built in the early 1990s…
Anyways, the embankment hill (or whatever you want to call it) makes for some fun sledding in Rochester Hills. We’ve seen other kids there, and lots of sled tracks, too, but fortunately, it’s never been too crowded. This hill (or embankment) is ideal for sledding for small children and not necessarily “thrilling enough” for kids over 7 or 8.
Park near the tennis courts and pick whichever spot on the hill you want to sled on.
Borden Park Rochester Hills Review
Borden Park had “state-of-the-art” facilities when it opened in the early 1990s. I give the City of Rochester Hills credit… they’ve made some key additions and improvements to the park throughout the years enabling the park to improve and stay with the times. This has included adding a modern Park Office building (with modern restroom facilities), updating courts to add several Pickleball courts, improving playground equipment, improving court surfaces, modernizing scoreboards, and hosting events at the park to garner interest.
The natural grass soccer fields and baseball outfields are always watered, well taken care of, and even suitable to host large-scale events. The roller hockey rinks are freshly painted with smooth skating surfaces.
You don’t have to be a total jock to enjoy some features of Borden Park. You’ll see more than your fair share people walking their dogs on the fitness trails. The embankment that surrounds the north end of the park actually makes a great sledding hill – especially for younger ones. Though clearly not designed for sledding, you’ll see lots of kids taking advantage of the hill on snow days.
One knock against Borden Park Rochester Hills would be the overall park layout. Plenty of “sports” parks in Oakland County…. I’m thinking of Boulan Park in Troy and Farmington Sports Park in Farmington Hills… have acres and acres of fields where each sports’ field or court is separated and parking is convenient for each sport. Borden Park is a bit of mish-mash. Some soccer fields here, some there. Basketball courts miles from Pickleball, hockey rink next to tennis courts, and inconvenient (NOT ENOUGH) parking for any of them… especially when soccer leagues and baseball leagues are happening at the same time.
