Activities: Guests stargazing through telescopes from the Warren Astronomical Society and through the telescope in the Cranbrook Observatory, and guests experiencing moon- and space-themed activities inside the museum.

Planetarium shows: Attendees will also get to experience a show in the Acheson Planetarium.

Interviews: Mike Narlock, head of Astronomy at Cranbrook Institute of Science will be available to talk about the total lunar eclipse.

All activities and events, including the planetarium show are available for an all-inclusive ticket price of: $15 for members (per person), $20 for non-members (per person), children under age 2 are free. Pre-registration is required for this event – walk-up tickets will not be available.

The Eclipse Viewing Party  is a rain, cloud-or-shine event; no refunds or credits. The visibility of the total lunar eclipse is weather permitting. If the weather is not conducive for eclipse viewing and stargazing the night of the event, registered guests will have the opportunity to explore the museum and see a planetarium show.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align so that the Moon passes into Earth’s shadow. In a total lunar eclipse, the entire Moon falls within the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow, called the umbra.
