The following are the central ideas that help Camp Carvela achieve their mission…

Camp Carvela Traverse City’s collaborative programming model fosters strong leadership skills and independence while giving participants the opportunity to create their own experience.
The non-competitive culture creates a safe space for participants to try new things and take healthy social and physical risks.
Camp Carvela is an unplugged community. Taking a break from the electronic world helps us reconnect with others in an authentic way and develop strong communication skills.
Free time is incorporated multiple times throughout each day to give participants a chance to relax, explore new interests, and connect with others.
A sense of playfulness is ever-present in their programs. By having a fun and playful environment, kids create a space to discover oneself and explore with others.

Camp Carvela Traverse City Summer Camps 2020

Camp Carvela offers day camp, 3-night, 5-night, and 12-night options beginning Monday, June 22, 2020 and running through August 14, 2020.

Super Starters is a three-night introduction to overnight camping for seven, eight and nine-year-olds. Campers will have opportunities in arts/crafts, sports, games, skits, and campfires, swimming and weather permitting, an overnight camp-out under the stars on the beach. Super Starters will participate in activities both in their own group and with other resident campers.

One Week Sessions offer arts/crafts, sports & games, drama, and music, swimming, canoeing, paddleboarding, hiking, sleep-outs in the Lounge or Cottage – all the traditional camp activities. Alongside these, Camp Carvela always has crazy-weird-wonderful activities available from the imaginative brains of their campers and staff.

Two Week Sessions offer the opportunity and time to participate in more involved camp programming. In addition to all the traditional camp activities like arts/crafts, tie-dye, sleep-outs, mountain biking, sports & games, drama, swimming, canoeing, paddleboarding, and hiking, two-week sessions allow campers the time to participate in a camp play, work with staff to develop camp-wide evening programs, complete a large art project or adventure away from camp, into the woods, or on an overnight trip.

Throughout all that Camp Carvela does, they work to create positive connections between campers and staff alike. When a camper finishes their time with them, they hope they will have a stronger sense of self and independence, a better understanding of how to relate to and communicate with others, and will have tried something new!

Registration is now open for the 2020 season! Visit to check out the camp and register.
