Dr. Junger’s Clean Gut Diet improves autoimmune disease symptoms. I have Sjogren’s syndrome. Sjogren’s is an autoimmune disorder that I was diagnosed with in 2010. It took several years, up to 10 actually, for them to diagnose this problem. It started with stomach issues and then continuted with all sorts of other autoimmune symptoms that you hear people talk about – muscle weakness, exhaustion, headaches, nausea, tremors, etc.
I’ve been on medication for Sjogren’s since 2010 and had noticed some side effects. The doctor was hoping that maybe we could reduce the meds or get off of them all together since having the side effects is worse than not taking the meds. But, knowing how I felt before the meds, and knowing that many symptoms return immediately after reducing my dose, I was worried.

I felt I had nothing to lose, so I immediately purchased the book off Amazon and got right into the Clean Gut diet program. I’ve been on this Clean Gut diet now for one month and have seen amazing changes. I’ve reduced my meds without any symptoms reappearing, I have more energy, and I’ve noticed that other symptoms that are still present while on meds have now improved. It’s only been a month and I’m thrilled – totally plan on making this a life style change. It doesn’t hurt that I lost 7 pounds as well, and I’m not getting as sick as others around me. I suffered for many years and this program has helped me. And, because I feel so much better, it’s easier to stick with the program – easier than any health food diet I’ve ever tried.

Dr Junger’s Clean Gut Diet – The Basics
- Eliminate wheat and dairy from your diet
- Do not mix an animal protein with a plant protein, e.g. don’t eat chicken with black beans – two different proteins become too hard to digest
- Make your plate with 80 percent vegetables and 20 percent protein and/or healthy fats
- Do not eat any processed/packaged foods
- Go with organic whenever possible
- Other foods to avoid are corn, rice, caffeine, alcohol, sugars – including many fruits which are high in sugar (only allow berries), potatoes…
Dr. Junger incorporates supplements into his Clean Gut diet program to help heal the gut. An unhealthy gut is the beginning and root of many health issues. The bad foods attack the gut, so you need to eliminate the foods and incorporate the supplements to help heal what many years have done.
Dr. Junger lists the supplements in his book, The Clean Gut. There are quite a few and some include Berberine, enzymes, vitamin B, vitamin d3, l-glutamine, multi vitamins, amino acids, etc.
