Copycat Chipotle Burrito Recipe – a simple steak or shredded chicken recipe that mimics the giant burritos you can get at Chipotle or Qdoba, custom-made right in your home.
We’ve always been a fan of the burritos from Chipotle and Qdoba. The Italian mom in me always says, I can do that. So, I gave it a shot. The family seemed quite pleased so now these copycat Chipotle Burritos are on the menu rotation in our house. The best part is that they’re easy to make and you can naturally customize the burrito to exactly how you like it. This recipe is also ideal to get your kids started on cooking their own meals. Kids love that this recipe is fun, easy, and allows for a ton of experimentation and combinations.

Copycat Chipotle / QDOBA Burrito Recipe Ingredients
I have listed the ingredients for the copycat recipe below, but not the quantities because it varies so much. It just all depends on how much you like to stuff into your burrito and how many you’re making. Also, don’t feel shy about eating two of these… the largest tortilla size you find in the store doesn’t come as large as the Chipotle and Qdoba restaurant tortillas.
- Burrito sized tortillas
- Shredded chicken (breast or thighs) or cubed steak
- Cheddar Cheese
- Rice with lime and cilantro
- Black beans
- Salsa
- Sour cream
Copycat Chipotle Burrito Directions
Cook chicken or steak seasoned with taco seasoning. I bake the chicken sprinkled with the seasoning. I pan saute the steak in some butter and the taco seasoning. I use Trader Joe’s taco seasoning since it’s the best I’ve tasted. I use the frozen rice packs (also available at Trader Joe’s) because it’s easy to cook up and makes the right amount. Dice up some cilantro and mix it in the hot cooked rice along with a pat of butter and some salt. Squirt in some lime to taste. Heat up some black beans, grate your favorite cheese (we use mild cheddar), and pick out your favorite salsa.
Microwave the tortillas for a few seconds to make them warm and pliable. Place some cheese in the middle. Top it with the hot meat, then the rice, then some beans, the salsa and finally the sour cream. Fold it up, and it’s all set! Remember, the beauty of this is that you can go with your favorite tomatillo salsa or skip the sour cream, go spicy, throw in some corn salsa, etc.
