Detroit Burger Bar review and pics – review, pics, hours, and menu info for Old Detroit Burger Bar locations in Oakland County MI. I’ve seen Old Detroit Burger Bar in my northern Oakland County travels. When they started following @OaklandCountyMoms on twitter, I made a depths of winter promise to them that my husband and I would take our motorcycles out there for a review a summer-time, night-time burger run!
The first trip we made was to the Old Detroit Burger Bar location on Baldwin Road (just north of Great Lakes Crossing) in Lake Orion. The second trip was to the larger location on M-24 in Orion Twp (just south of Downtown Lake Orion). Both locations are similar. M-24 location is the larger location that features plenty of video games. The Baldwin location is the smaller, more laid-back location.

The Old Detroit Burger Bar formula is simple – great hamburgers in a clean, family friendly atmosphere. It’s a formula that they duplicate at all of DBB locations. Their locations are comfortable, spotless, and well-lit while maintaining the aura of a weathered-old bar you might find in Corktown or on Jos Campau in downtown Detroit. It’s as an attractive option for families as it is for sports fans having some drinks and watching the games on about a million tvs. Detroit Burger Bar brands itself well. Their attractive Michigan license plate logo is everywhere in the restaurant – on the walls, on the menus, on the plates and contact paper, and on the waitresses’ quasi-skimpy (but not Hooters sleazy) uniform tank tops and t-shirts.
The Old Detroit Burger Bar menu features bar appetizers, several sandwich types, a few non-burger entrees. Of course, the major attraction is the hamburger menu – 14 different burger options with Detroit themes! All burgers are 1/2 lb Angus burgers and served on toasted buns with a signature DBB stamp on them. The burgers are fantastic! If you want a taste comparison of Detroit’s best hamburgers… I’d compare them very favorably to Shamrock Pub hamburgers in Utica. I should also mention that DBB has a great selection of salads. The Cobo Cobb is tremendous. The kids menu at Detroit Burger Bar offers 4 kids meals options.
Detroit Burger Bar features many domestic beer options, imports, and Michigan craft beers. They also feature a nice wine selection including many Whites and Reds from Michigan.
I’m curious to see if Old Detroit Burger Bar will continue to expand. If so, they seem to be doing everything correctly. The locations, menus, and operations seem to feature a synergy that proves that their formula for further expansion could work across Metro Detroit – kind of like a more relaxed version Art & Jake’s Sports Bar and Grills (in Macomb County). Detroit Burger Bar isn’t a bombastic, high-tech sports bar like Ciccarelli’s, it’s more comfortable and relaxed – like Cheers. It might not look like it on the surface, but Detroit Burger Bar is very family-friendly. I hope you find this Detroit Burger Bar review helpful.
UPDATE – Since our original July 2015 review, Detroit Burger Bar has expanded rapidly. You can now find DBBs in Clawson, Farmington, Clarkston (coming very soon), and Troy in addition to their other locations. I recently stopped in their Clawson location (located next to Flipside records) and their Troy location. They’ve even expanded to Harbor Springs, MI (near Petoskey) in case you’re ever craving a burger “Up North”. The food and menus are remain simple from location to location but may vary slightly.
