The school’s traditional focus on a well rounded, liberal arts education has provided a spirit of achievement and excellence where the scholar-athlete-artist can thrive.
Since its founding in 1914 by F. Alden Shaw, Detroit Country Day School has been committed to providing students with an exemplary education rooted in academic rigor, while focusing on fully developing the student’s potential.
Mr. Shaw had a firm belief in education extending beyond the classroom into the home and the community, resulting in the development of the whole child. That belief is still strongly embedded in the core of our teachings today in which we continue to focus on graduating young adults who are well-rounded, solid individuals equipped with the knowledge and skills to excel and achieve excellence not only in their educations, but also in their careers, families and communities.
