Do Grounding Mats Work? The Grounding Mat is one of the latest all natural health initiatives out on the market. I agree with the holistic approach that if a body ailment or health issue can be healed by addressing the cause, that is the route I like to explore first.

So when I heard about the Grounding Mat, I was eager to give it a try…. even if I thought it was a little too new-agey… even for me.

What is a Grounding Mat?

The Grounding Mat gives you the ‘earthing’ effect in your own home. There are benefits to walking barefoot outside. Your feet touching the ground is ‘earthing’ and provides your body with needed equalization in electrons. To put it simply, a Grounding Mat replicates the connection you get by walking barefoot on the ground. This connection allows electrons to flow from the earth and into your body to create a neutral electrical charge.

Most people don’t walk barefoot outdoors. It’s not always safe or feasible. The Grounding Mat is a good substitute. The Grounding Mat is relatively new, but it seems that studies have shown it to be effective in improving stress levels, quality of sleep, inflammation, and circulation… allegedly.

After trying a Grounding Mat for a few consecutive days, I can report

  • I feel less stressed/anxious
  • My mood is definitely lighter
  • My circulation is greatly improved / My cold hands and feet are not an issue
  • I feel a general, more uniformed body temperature throughout my body, including the extremities
  • My sleep is less interrupted If I wake up in the middle of the night, I fall right back asleep
  • If used long enough, I feel my body’s aches lessen, which is a good sign that inflammation is improving

I was VERY skeptical about using this mat and my skepticism turned into surprise (then delight) when I started to notice the benefits of using my grounding mat. However, I also did notice that the benefits eroded quickly. Now, I’ve come to the conclusion that if I want the soothing benefits, I have to make time for my grounding mat daily,  whenever I feel the need, or in the moment.

How to Use a Grounding Mat

A Grounding Mat is easy to use. It has a single prong plug that plugs into the grounding portion of the outlet (pictured below) and then into a small snap on the Grounding Mat. Then, you simply rest your bare skin on it (feet, back, hands… it really doesn’t matter). You can do this as your mouse pad at work, or in bed while sleeping, as part of a yoga mat, etc. I did find that the longer I used it, the greater the benefit. So I placed mine on top of my sheets for my legs to lie on it all night long. That is when the benefits were the greatest.

Do Grounding Mats Work – How Often To Use a Grounding Mat

I’ve heard that you need to start slow and work your way up, e.g. 10-40 minutes per day gradually increasing to 8 hours/overnight. Also, some say they see results after one day, some report it took a few weeks. Everyone’s condition and situation is different. I noticed a difference shortly after my first time using it.

Where to Buy a Grounding Mat

I found my Grounding Mat on Amazon. I’m guessing there are all kinds out there. Mine retails for about $30. That’s more than worth it for the benefits I’m seeing. As I previously mentioned, you can find them online just about everywhere, and in a variety of sizes.
