People that live in Petoskey (or vacation there frequently) may remember Duffy’s as the old Papa Lou’s Pizza Pub and Grill location (Bear River Brewing Company before that). One of the owners of Papa Lou’s bought out another owner to create Duffy’s. Many of the menu items are the same. If you enjoyed a particular item on Papa Lou’s menu, ask your server.. chances are they can recreate it for you.

Duffy’s Garage and Grille has an extensive menu with many different options. There are three main categories – burgers, pizza and grinders, among other options such as salads, entrees like the Italian Stuffed Chicken filled with capicola ham, sausage, and mozzarella which is then breaded and fried, and so much more.
But, back to the burgers, pizza and grinders… Duffy’s Garage Petoskey has some unique combinations on the menu. For example, the GOOD FELLAS PIZZA with basil infused olive oil, pancetta bacon, capicolla, turkey, roasted red peppers, and red onions. Or the THE LANDFILL PIZZA which has just about everything on it, and the large size weighs almost 4 pounds! Some burger options include BBQ PORK SANDWICH with pulled pork mixed with Diablo sauce, topped with pickle chips and served with home made coleslaw on a grilled brioche bun. Or, the THE BIG DUFFER that is loaded with lettuce, tomato, bacon, ham, sauteed mushrooms, onions, provolone and cheddar cheeses. The Grinders are oven baked and also have great combinations, including the HOT WING with chicken breast, hot wing sauce, bleu cheese crumbles, pizza cheese, banana peppers, and lettuce and the STEAK & CHEESE that is made to order with mayo, provolone cheese, and your choice of grilled mushrooms, red onions, and/or green peppers.
Also worth mentioning is that Duffy’s Garage Petoskey offers a gluten free pizza crust that is better than any I’ve had anywhere. They can also make the grinders using gluten free bread.
But, if you’re not in the mood for the combinations listed on the menu, Duffy’s Garage and Grille offers Build your own burger, Build your own grinder, and Build your own pizza options! And, the selections are great…making for some great food. Their hours are a bit limiting, even for an “up north” family restaurant. I guess the strategy is to focus on the family food and not the Downtown Petoskey drinks crowd. It’s kind of a shame, because I think with the the atmosphere that they could definitely appeal to more than a family dinner crowd.
Happy hour at Duffy’s Garage Petoskey is from 3p-6p and offers drink and food specials. The interior at Duffy’s Garage and Grille is interesting decor with car parts and hubcaps on the walls, chandeliers that are made with spark plugs, and very “up-north” like wood plank tables.
