EcoSmart Organic Insect Repellent Review – review and ingredients of EcoSmart Organic Insect Repellent, a bug spray that claims to repel insects with all-natural ingredients.
So, it’s a summer night and the kids and I were getting pumped up for the annual local fireworks show. I hit the store to get some last minute snacks and some bug spray/repellent. Still on the fence about the whole DEET thing, I decided to look into some other eco-friendly insect repellent brands.
I found EcoSMART Organic Insect Repellent bug spray. The claims on the bottle said that
insect repellent is safe around children and pets; organic; keeps mosquitoes, ticks, gnats…away; deet free; and REPELS for hours (written in bold). Actually, here’s the print from the back side of the bottle: “IT’S SAFE. IT’S EFFECTIVE. IT’S SMART…NATURALLY! EcoSMART Organic Insect Repellent keeps bugs away for hours and is safe for the entire family. We don’t use DEET or other synthetic toxins – our powerful, all natural formula is made from organic plant oils, and repels mosquitoes, ticks, gnats and other annoying pests for hours.”
EcoSMART Organic Insect Repellent Ingredients – Geraniol, Rosemary Oil, Cinnamon Oil, Lemongrass Oil, and other.
It all sounded good so I decided to give this the EcoSMART Organic Insect Repellent bug spray a shot. My husband, kids, and I packed up our things and walked to the fireworks show. We found our usual spot on the lawn and began spraying down with the EcoSMART bug spray as we laid out some blankets to sit on.
Seriously, before we even sat down on the blankets, the mosquitoes were all over us. It was as if the EcoSMART Organic Insect Repellent bug spray did nothing to repel the insects, yet did everything to attract them. We got eaten alive within minutes. It was so bad, I embarrassingly had to ask another nearby family if we could borrow their OFF spray. Otherwise, it was so bad we would have had to leave. Luckily, they were kind enough and the OFF did the trick.
I get that the DEET is questionable, but I also know people who have been knocked down by the West Nile Virus. Plus, I’m allergic to mosquito bites so even without the slightest scratch, they get huge and take several days to go away. Pick your poison, literally. Next time, I’m going with the DEET.
I hope this EcoSmart Organic Insect Repellent review is helpful.
