Ford House FREE Fun for Kids

During a difficult time for many, free children’s tickets and activities make it easier for families to experience the National Historic Landmark estate. Adult admission is just $5 for an all-day grounds pass, and children’s grounds passes will be free from October 6 through November 30, 2020. This opportunity is being provided with the generous support of the Ford Motor Company Fund.

With school field trips off the table, Ford House fills the void as a safe place to visit. Parents can bring their young learners to the estate to boost educational enrichment and also spend some time out of the house. The estate boasts plenty of space to explore while keeping a safe distance from others with its 87 acres on the shore of Lake St. Clair.

Kids 12 and under can pick up an educational kit onsite for free and discover the estate while completing fun learning activities tailored to their age group. Kits include a bird-spotting guide, a leaf identification pack, coloring pages and binoculars. Designed to complement various educational standards through hands-on experiences, activities are centered on outdoor nature science. The kit was created by Ford House’s education team.

“Children need time outdoors, running about and getting fresh air. They benefit from time away from screens, including online instruction,” Ford House Director of Education Sheila Ruen said. “So my team developed projects that will engage children in explorations of the natural world, both on the Ford House grounds and in their own neighborhoods. We look forward to seeing children and families engaging with our beautiful landscape, flora and fauna, and then taking their inspiration, curiosity and tools home for further exploration.”

Ford House offers more affordable opportunities for young learners, including monthly At-Home Learner workshops online and in-person tours. The virtual workshops cost $5 per family. The onsite tours cost $2 per person.

Visit www.fordhouse.org to reserve a grounds pass with free admission for children starting Tuesday, Oct. 6. Families will receive the educational kit at the entrance gate. There are no onsite ticket sales. For tour schedules and more information, see FordHouse.org.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ford House continues to uphold guidelines and safety procedures to ensure a clean, comfortable, safe and enjoyable visit for all. This includes hand sanitizer stations around the estate and limited admission capacities. All visitors must carry a mask with them, to be worn when interacting with other visitors or staff.
