The free workshops are a wonderful resource and cover a variety of parent/child issues and topics. Workshops take place throughout Oakland County.

Great Start Oakland County Help Me Grow Series
The Help Me Grow developmental activity groups are designed to support children’s early learning while focusing on a key area of development each week. Included are 90 minutes of hands-on activities including motor, language and social skills. Parent education topics and take home activities support children’s early learning and development. Each activity group series includes five weekly sessions.
These activity groups are for parents and care providers with children newborn to 3 years of age (47 months) and provide an opportunity to learn together.

Great Start Oakland County Positive Solutions for Families Series
This parent series will provide information to families, of children birth to 5 years, on how to promote children’s social and emotional skills, understand their challenging behavior and use positive approaches to help young children learn and grow.
Parents will receive a Positive Solutions for Families workbook with ideas and resources.
Free child care and dinner is available during these sessions.

Great Start Oakland County Dads Group Events
Great Start Oakland Dads was established by a diverse group of Oakland County dads of children 0-12 years of age. This group is a way to enrich fathers and their children’s lives with socialization, community activity and support. The first hour, while your children are in care, group members get to know each other and discuss what it takes to be a dad. Presentations include Introducing the Five Protective Factors, Work-Life Balance, Activities to do with your children (indoors and out). Second hour group members will join up with their children and have three different stations to empower dads growing a solid relationship with your child.

Great Start Oakland County Funtastic Fitness Series
Concentrates on large motor skills, coordination, balance, resistance, flexibility and aerobic activity. For young children (ages 1-5 years) and their parents/caregivers. Come dressed to exercise, including sneakers! Don’t forget your water bottle too! This is a free event!
Children and their parents will:
- Participate in a group activity, such as aerobic conditioning, stretching, yoga
- Participate in activity stations such as obstacle courses, sports activities, etc
- Learn about the importance of physical activity

Great Start Oakland County Annual Parent Coalition Picnic 2016
Registration is now open for the FREE Annual Parent Coalition Picnic on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 10a-12:30p at Waterford Oaks County Park. FREE picnic lunch, games, activities, entertainment, and prizes. For kids ages 8 and under. Bring your sunscreen, blankets, and lawn chairs for family fun! Oakland County Moms will be on hand passing out goodies for the kids. Stop by and say hi!
