Homemade Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Recipe – easy buttercream frosting recipe using butter, whipping cream, unsweetened cocoa, powdered sugar, and salt.

Up until last week, I was the mom who bought frosting in a plastic can. I got no complaints, but just wanted to try something homemade, especially since I received a copy of Big Book of Cupcakes – a book filled with 150 different cupcake recipes!

My kids flip through this book like it’s the World Almanac, reading through recipes and picking out which might be their favorites. I did not have time (nor all the ingredients on hand) to make one of the cupcake recipes, so this time around I went with just the chocolate buttercream frosting recipe.

I loved how this homemade chocolate buttercream frosting┬átastes. It’s not overly sweet like the canned version. My only suggestion would be to add more whipping cream than the recipe calls for because the consistency seems a bit too thick.

Homemade Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/3 cup whipping cream
1/8 tsp. salt
1 16oz. package powdered sugar

Homemade Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Directions
1. Beat first 4 ingredients at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy.
2. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating at low speed until blended. Beat at high speed 2 minutes or until creamy. Makes 3 cups.
