#IMomSoHard Interview – Internet sensation, IMOMSOHARD, is on a Fall “Getwaway Tour”, and they are making a stop at The Masonic Temple in Detroit on November 11. Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley – the two moms behind it all – have been performing, teaching, and writing comedy internationally for a combined 40+ years. Here is our #IMomSoHard Interview!
#IMomSoHard Interview (from June 2017)
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – How did you come up with the idea to do this?
#IMomSoHard Jen – Well, it was obviously conceived over wine. Like my children. We both were cry/laughing about our recent parenting struggles. And embarrassments. And failures. And realized that we were dealing with, all moms probably were, but that we were lucky to have a friend to laugh with and talk one another off the ledge, so to speak.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What was your first video about? How does it differ, if at all, from your newer ones?
#IMomSoHard Jen – The one where I forgot my daughter’s name and Kristin laughed uncontrollably at me? I think, now that she’s older, I remember her name more often. She was 7 months when we did the first video and now she can scream “No” at me, so there’s lots of new material.
#IMomSoHard Kristin – Originally, when we were getting ready to shoot our first video, we thought “we have to be peppy so we can make moms happy”. Neither of us were doing well that day. I was on my raging period and Jen had been nursing for 8 hours during the night. When she forgot Delilah’s name it was like the universe saying “stop being peppy and start being REAL”. So we did and our next episode was about hemorrhoids.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What is your favorite video?
#IMomSoHard Jen – It’s hard to choose. I’m proud of all of them. We put so much of ourselves into them, I like them for different reasons. I would say though, if you want to watch the ones that really show you who we are, watch: I Rhoid So Hard, Pinterest, Swimsuits, and I Friend So Hard

#IMomSoHard Kristin – : I agree with Jen however I BODY HAIR SO HARD would be added to that list. Mostly because in the beginning of the night I had come over, just was given a speeding ticket, basically fired by my laser hair technician and it was 120 degrees. It was such a raw moment then we started talking and sipping the vino and all hell broke loose. It was so fun to laugh after a day like that. Which pretty much encapsulates our whole existence.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – Which video is the most crazy, risky, etc?
#IMomSoHard Jen – The one where 20 million people laughed at us in our swimsuits. Hands down. But pretty much any video that has Kristin vomiting the night before tends to do well.

#IMomSoHard Kristin – Yup. Anytime I say “Oh I don’t know if I’m ready to talk about that” Jen screams “ROLL CAMERA”. LOL.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – is the set up for your live performances? Is it new material, etc?
#IMomSoHard Jen – It’s basically a monster truck show for moms, minus the trucks, add some good hair and great lady-friends. It’s a ruckus 2 person stand-up show. We tell the audience things we have never shared on the videos. It’s much more “in-depth”. I’ll let you read into that what you will.
#IMomSoHard Kristin – There is nothing like a room full of awesome women, friends, moms ready to laugh and drink a little (maybe a lot) of wine. It’s electric and it truly is like one giant living room.
Spend an evening with Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley, the hilarious oh-so-real women behind #IMomSoHard. With over300 million views of their web series, the show will keep you and your gal pals laughing all night long. The tour has been packing halls across the country and the tour is coming to the Masonic Temple in Detroit.
