We bought our son a pair of Lake Placid Nitro Adjustable 7.7 ice skates as a gift recently. I’m a big fan of adjustable skates and became familiar with them when we found adjustable in-line skates for him that really worked well. It’s bad enough kids outgrow shoes so quickly. It’s hard to justify buying new skates every season when they grow out of them so quickly. The blades barely get used before it’s time to get a new pair!
The Lake Placid Nitro Adjustable 7.7 ice skates are adjustable skates so you can keep them as your child’s feet grow. We got the Model # LP101B in a medium size which says it fits sizes 2-4.
We went to an open skate at the ONYX to take the skates out for a test run.
The Lake Placid skates use the easy on and off buckle system vs. laces. The buckle system honestly does help, especially if you’re wearing gloves. Unfortunately, the buckles on my son’s skates kept popping open. However, he didn’t seem to mind and would just snap them shut and keep on skating. For the price, I didn’t really expect much more. The adjustable ice skates run under $40. I think the price is great! Especially when you consider that he may get 2 to 3 more seasons out of them.
The sizing of the ice skates can be easily adjusted with the push of a button. Once you push the button, you can slide the skate longer or shorter to re-size it. It’s difficult for me to say if the ice skates run true to size because my son wears a size 4, and he said all the sizes felt fine to him when I was worried it would be tight. But, by the looks and feels of it, these may run big.
My son seemed to like the skates and did not complain that his feet hurt, and there were other kids with high end lace up skates that had to stop skating because of achy feet. Overall, the ice skates are a good option for beginner and occasional skaters. Just expect that you might get a pair that unbuckles occasionally.
