Lockhart’s BBQ Royal Oak

Lockhart’s BBQ Royal Oak Review – Pics, and menu info. Lockhart’s BBQ is located on East 3rd Street and Troy Street in Downtown Royal Oak. It’s in a warehouse-like structure with tall ceilings and a rustic, yet cozy decor.

As soon as you enter Lockhart’s, you are enveloped by an aroma that has you feeling like you just entered a Texas backyard BBQ. Lockhart’s smokes a great deal of its food, and the aroma puts you in the mood for everything on the menu.

Lockhart’s BBQ Royal Oak Review – Pics

Lockhart’s BBQ Royal Oak is casual and family-friendly. However, you might just enjoy Lockhart’s as a fun get together with other couples, or a fun date night. Lockhart’s offers several flat screen TV’s, Monday-Friday happy hours with drink specials and food specials, a huge selection of Michigan craft beers, and a full bar for all the tasty mixed drinks. You can also enjoy outdoor seating at Lockhart’s outdoor patio where you’ll find more flat screen TV’s, as well as massive outdoor heaters so you can enjoy the patio even on the cooler days.

Lockhart’s BBQ Royal Oak menu has unique BBQ selections with Royal Oak flair. As far as taste, quality, and the selections are concerned, this is “the real thing.” Menu items include sandwiches literally stuffed with brisket, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, smoked sausage, and smoked salmon. Lockhart’s also offers brisket burgers, salads, and full BBQ plates where you choose your meat (ribs, ham, brisket, pork, etc.). The appetizers are pretty tempting although I knew I would not be able to eat it all. If you can do it, the apps are unique and sound great – smoked pork nachos, brisket sliders, smoked wings, and more. There is also a kid’s menu. It’s not as reasonably-priced as what you normally find for a kid’s menu, but it also offers more than the traditional hot dog. For example, children under 12 can enjoy brisket or ribs. There’s also chicken fingers and cheeseburgers for the non-bbq lovers. Picking a ‘side’ to go with your order goes beyond adding a side of fries. You can choose from sweet potato fries, 1/4 pound of smoked sausage, potato salad, and more. All desserts at Lockhart’s are made in-house and homemade. Again, no room for these but they all sound great – Peach Cobbler, Lemon Cake, Chocolate Dr. Pepper Cake, Pecan Pie, or Strawberry Shortcake.

Probably one of the biggest highlights at Lockhart’s BBQ, aside from the in-house smokers, are the BBQ sauces which include Sweet, Fire on the Red, Carolina (a vinegar based BBQ sauce with lots of spices), and Signature. I tried them all and can honestly say they were all really good. If I had to lean toward one, it would be either the Lockhart’s Fire on the Red BBQ sauce, or Lockhart’s Signature BBQ Sauce. I got the Smoked Chicken Club sandwich and the chicken was a bit dry. Topping it with Lockhart’s BBQ sauces was a great “solution.”

Another fun and unique move by Lockhart’s BBQ is the pickled jar of veggies when you get seated. Instead of a basket of popcorn or a bowl of chips and salsa, Lockhart’s serves all guests with a jar of pickles, pickled onions, and pickled carrots.

Lockhart’s BBQ also offers catering.
