The Montessori School Rochester Summer Camps 2020 – The Montessori School Rochester offers outdoor-focused, STEAAM Camp running June 8 through August 21, 2020 for children 2 months to 12 years old. Their STEAAM camp takes place mostly outdoors on their wooded 9-acre campus with weekly themes that go beyond the typical STEM camp – Science, Technology, Engineering applied through Art, Adventure and Montessori experience-based learning methods. Choose any of the fun weekly themes below, or sign up for all 11!
Campers can register on a week-by-week basis, with half-day (9a–12p), full-day (9a–3:15p) and extended-day (8a–5p) options. Children are split into infant, 2-5 year old and 6–12 year old groups for age-appropriate learning. Costs vary from $220 to $330/week depending on group and options chosen. Register HERE.

11 weeks of STEAAM outdoors: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Adventure and Montessori
Week 1 (6/8 – 6/12) Flavors of World
Children will learn how produce makes its way from farm to table. They will experience the process for themselves, from planting and nurturing to harvesting and cooking vegetables of different national cuisines.
Week 2 (6/15 – 6/19) Nature Explorers: Bugging Out
Campers will enjoy outdoor adventures foraging and collecting bugs to examine and embark on a journey of discovery in entomology.
Week 3 (6/22 – 6/26) Nature Photography with the Digital Eye
Young photographers will explore photography in the gardens, marshes and woods, applying various photo editing, printing and artistic techniques to create original artworks or photo journals.
Week 4 (6/29 – 7/3) Water Play
Children will enjoy creative water games, water challenges and design water experiments around the campus grounds.
Week 5 (7/6 – 7/10) Warrior Art
Little warriors will enjoy using grass, mud, leaves, flowers, seeds and other natural materials to create outdoor art. Older warriors will learn to use natural elements to leave secret codes for their teammates to follow on missions through the woods.
Week 6 (7/13 – 7/17) Rock and Roll!
Little musicians will design and construct their own instruments to play while the older rockers will form their own band, make a music video and perform on an outdoor stage.
Week 7 (7/20 – 7/24) Woodworking
Kids will learn basic skills in working with wood, how to use tools safely and responsibly and create projects to take home.
Week 8 (7/27 – 7/31) Film Making: Lights, Camera, Action!
Young filmmakers will write, direct, record and edit their own mini-movies, expanding their storytelling horizons with video editing tools such as Adobe Rush and iVideo. The youngest campers will work with counsellors to record videos will hiking, playing, singing and dancing and learn the fundamentals of point and shoot.
Week 9 (8/3 – 8/7) Construction Junction
From mini tepees and huts to constructing a playground using pullies, levers, wheels, wedges, incline planes, pendulums etc., kids of different ages will enjoy the creative side of engineering.
Week 10 (8/10 – 8/14) Adventure Codes
This camp takes the coding out of the app and into the playground. Older children will practice programming skills in blindfolded call and response outdoor games while younger will learn programming logic through thoughtfully designed materials and play.
Week 11 (8/17 – 8/21) Soccer Shots & 3D Printing
Younger kids will learn team-play and ball skills in the mornings and enjoy an afternoon craft, while older kids will improve technical soccer skills and discover the fundamentals of 3D CAD design and 3D printing.
Due to concerns about the Coronavirus / COVID 19, extra precautions for the health and safety of children are being taken, including reduced group sizes. A supplementary virtual summer camp will be run in parallel to the above listed camps.
