Oakland County Parks and Recreation Oakland County summer jobs info. High school students, home-bound college students or anyone looking to earn some summer cash can get a jump on summer employment opportunities offered by Oakland County Parks and Recreation.

The parks system needs lifeguards, grill room and concessions staff, maintenance workers, park leaders, contact station workers, golf course workers and more to provide customer service to its 2 million annual visitors. Applications are currently being accepted for summer employment. Positions pay starting at $14.62 (for ages 18+) per hour or $13.26 (for ages 16+) per hour. If you apply early, you can receive up to a $500 bonus. Lifeguard positions, other waterpark workers, and golf course help pay more.

RARA (Rochester Avon Recreation Authority) is hiring summer Day Camp and SCAMP Camp Counselors. You must be 18 years or older and CPR certified by the time camp starts (RARA will provide a CPR class before camp). The Metroparks are hiring for Golf Course Attendants, Police Officers, Public Safety Officers, Recreation Attendants, Food Service Workers, Lifeguards, Toll Booth Attendants, and Maintenance this summer for seasonal and part-time employees at all 13 Metroparks in southeast Michigan. Troy Recreation Department is hiring lifeguards, swimming instructors, umpires, day camp leaders and more for the 2024 summer season. Applicants are asked to apply in person at the Troy Recreation Department front desk or online at https://troymi.gov/departments/human_resources/job_openings.php. Troy recreation accepts applicants as young as 15 years old (for lifeguard positions). If applicants aren’t certified to be lifeguards, Troy Recreation will pay for your Lifeguard Certification class!

In addition to Oakland County Parks, many communities are seeing the need for more Oakland County Lifeguard jobs. A couple of years back, I spoke to then Troy Assistant to the City Manager Kelly Molinar who used to manage aquatic programs for the Troy Communty Center and the Troy Aquatic Center about the lifeguard shortages. While Molinar said Troy doesn’t have the same urgency for lifeguards that Oakland County Parks does, she concurred that there is a need to recruit the high schools earlier and earlier each season to fill the number required by Troy Recreation and other Oakland County parks and rec departments that require lifeguards to staff pools.
