Outdoor Adventures Await: Dive into Summer Fun with the Metroparks’ Day Camps

With spring break now behind us, it means summer break is even closer to arriving which is why now is a great time to start planning things to keep your kids engaged and busy this summer.

Summer day camps are a great way for your child to get outdoors, experience something new and make new friends and the Huron-Clinton Metroparks have a full schedule of day camps this summer in a variety of different topics. Keep reading to learn more about the Metroparks offerings.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE DAY CAMPS

For the kids who love exploring the outdoors, the Metroparks have many day camps that are focused on getting into the woods and experiencing all nature has to offer. Running Wild Day Camp | Indian Springs | July 25 | Ages 7-10

Spend the day outside exploring the wild places of Indian Springs Metropark. Campers will search for critters, build shelters, play games, create art and more in this day camp. Adventures in Nature Day Camp | Kensington | June 26-28, July 10-12, August 7-9 | Ages 7-12

In this 3-day camp, kids will hike through the forests and swamps, look for strange insects, build traps and fires, sneak through the woods (and sneak up on each other), go on a pond-side creature search, interpret the language of birds, race boats down the river, and much more. Daring Naturalist Day Camp | Kensington | July 30 | Ages 7-12

Go behind the scenes to meet and learn about some of the education animals that live at the nature center. Then, experience the wonders of nature during a hike on the trails. After a break for lunch, spend the rest of the day learning to survive in the woods. Have fun practicing real wilderness survival skills. Habitats Day Camp | Stony Creek | Ages 6-7 – July 23-25, Ages 4-5 – August 13-15

Let’s get out and play in the woods and wetlands of Stony Creek Metropark. Children will enjoy this mini day camp of stream exploration, nature inspired crafts, stories, songs, and plenty of outdoor discovery.

FARM DAY CAMPS

Do you have a future farmer on your hands or does your child love animals? Sign them up for a farm day camp where they can experience what it’s like to be farmer for a day and get up close with the farm residents. Farmer Jr. for a Day Camp | Kensington | July 16-19 | Ages 6-7

Farmer Jr. Day Camp offers children a memorable experience and the opportunity to discover the wonders of life on the farm during this multi-day camp. Activities may include outdoor adventures like hikes (with goats), scavenger hunts, pioneer life experiences, craft projects, milking a cow or goat, grooming and harnessing draft horses and hayrides.

SCIENCE DAY CAMPS

If your child is interested in learning all about how the world around us works or learning more about the creatures that inhabit it, a science day camp may be the perfect fit for them. Adventures in Science Day Camp | Indian Springs | July 17 – 18 | Ages 7-10

Learn how to make things that fizz, bubble and ooze in this fun and interactive two-day science day camp. Explore how water moves within a plant and more through hands-on STEAM experiments. Creepy Crawly Day Camp | Kensington | July 23 | Ages 7-12

Is your child fond of curious about bugs, butterflies, spiders, and praying mantises? Do you like to roll over logs and see what’s  underneath? Then the Creepy Crawly Day Camp is for your child. The Metroparks Guides will teach kids how to use nets, traps, and collecting jars in an effort to capture insects, spiders, and other arthropods.
