PRO Martial Arts Troy, Michigan offers martial arts training lessons for kids with a focus on character education.
I had a chance to speak with PRO Martial Arts Troy, Michigan owner Mike Murray about the programs and services offered.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What products or services are offered at PRO Martial Arts?
Pro Martial Arts Troy Owner Mike Murray – We are a martial arts school for children with a focus on character education. Our overriding goal is to teach children to make good decisions when they aren’t with their parents. We have an exclusive program called ARMOR which helps keep kids safe from bullies and adult predators.
PRO Martial Arts is a relatively-new national franchise with 60 locations throughout the country. Our school in Troy will be the fourth school of its kind in Michigan. The other PRO Martial Arts training facilities are located in Lake Orion, Novi and Canton.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What is your most popular service at PRO Martial Arts Troy?
Pro Martial Arts Troy Owner Mike Murray – The ARMOR program is offered exclusively by PRO Martial Arts and teaches children how to stay safe in an increasingly dangerous world. The ARMOR program teaches children how to stand tall against bullying behavior and predatory activity – both online and in daily life. Based on research from reputable sources specializing in child safety, child psychology and crime prevention, PRO Martial Arts offers weekly lessons on Bullying Prevention and Predator Prevention that students can enter at any time to gain an enhanced ability to assess, avoid and, if necessary, defend themselves from danger.
Another popular program is Little Rhinos, a special pre-school program for 3-5 year olds. In Troy, Little Rhinos classes will be held Monday through Thursday and again on Saturday morning.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What is special about PRO Martial Arts? What do you want your business to be known for?
Pro Martial Arts Troy Owner Mike Murray – We are, first and foremost, a character education school. Our role is to support parents in teaching and reinforcing virtues such as respect, manners and confidence. Every class includes a character education ‘mat chat’, and the students must earn a minimum of three ‘character stripes’ before they can test for the next belt level. At most martial arts schools, character development is a byproduct — at PRO Martial Arts, it is our primary mission.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What’s something no one knows about your business? Is there any other information you would like to add?
Pro Martial Arts Troy Owner Mike Murray – We plan to begin a program specifically for children with special needs. We recognize that martial arts can provide many benefits to all children, including children with disabilities.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – How did PRO Martial Arts come to be and what disciplines does it incorporate?
Pro Martial Arts Troy Owner Mike Murray – The PRO Martial Arts System is a cohesive blend of the best elements of traditional Korean martial arts. Founder and CEO Grandmaster Ed Samane began his martial arts training at the age of 11, and in 1979 trained with Hapkido founder Supreme Grandmaster Ji han Jae. Master Samane has successfully designed the PROMartial Arts curriculum as a nationally recognized brand built on the belief that karate should teach not only self-defense, but also character by helping to improve overall attitude, self-worth, fitness, assertiveness, and self-awareness in both children and adults.
With close to 60 schools open internationally, PRO Martial Arts incorporates elements of Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido, and provides its students with the opportunity to develop a potent blend of strength, flexibility, coordination and balance while learning effective and proven self-defense techniques in a fun and energizing environment.
