Rusty Saw North Brutus BBQ Restaurant

Rusty Saw North Brutus BBQ review, pics, hours, and menu info. Rusty Saw Smokehouse, near Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Alanson & Pellston, is the BBQ restaurant that replaced the Maple River restaurant on US 31 in Brutus, MI.

Rusty Saw North Brutus BBQ Pics

Rusty Saw has traveled all around the country with their recipes, winning many trophies for their BBQ dishes. One corner of the restaurant has a bunch of trophies on display, which are only about a quarter of them! Their first Rusty Saw location is in Hemlock MI. They added this Brutus location in January (2018) and named it Rusty Saw Smokehouse, and brought with them their award winning recipes.

Since then, they tweaked the name of the restaurant (and the menu) for a little while in 2019 but have returned to their Rusty Saw roots with the Rusty Saw North name… (and a more compact menu). Since our original review in ’18, they’ve stopped serving ribs, salmon, and extensive BBQ “combo” plates that most traditional BBQ restaurants serve. It’s more of a restaurant now and not a BBQ restaurant.

I was a huge fan of the original Rusty Saw Smokehouse menu and disliked the changes they made after they opened in ’18. Now that they’ve returned and renamed to Rusty Saw North, the menu has gotten better… but still not as extensive as it was when it first opened. This however allows for more variety instead of just “chicken, ribs, or brisket”.

The BBQ is now incorporated into several entrees now as opposed to being the main feature of the restaurant. This allows for more variety. RSN serves a variety of sandwiches, salads, starters, deserts, burgers, and wood-fired pizza… most of these recipes infuse that delicious Rusty Saw BBQ recipes. They brag about their pizza, but I had a bad experience. The crust was too thick for a woodfire oven and the crust of my pizza was burnt extensively while the middle of the pizza was raw. Maybe I just had a bad experience and its usually great?? I don’t know.

UP NORTH MICHIGAN TRAVEL REVIEWS

The Rusty Saw had three BBQ sauces…their signature cherry sauce that is available at all times, plus two others that you need to ask for… a mustard sauce with a sweet side and a smoky BBQ sauce. All are great.

The Rusty Saw North also offers up some great desserts that are done as seasonal specials, so different desserts are available depending on the season.

The Rusty Saw has catering services available for group sizes up to 30. There is outdoor seating for great views of the former golf course while dining outside during the warmer months. The Rusty Saw has a full bar and carries unique flavored spirits. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It’s overall a great dining experience.

Rusty Saw North Brutus fills a HUGE BBQ void in northern Michigan. If you’re craving BBQ in the Petoskey / Harbor Springs area, this is the place to go. Trust me, I’ve reviewed PLENTY of Michigan BBQ restaurants. Rusty Saw isn’t just a good “Up North” restaurant, Rusty Saw can fit in anywhere and be consider great Michigan BBQ… even if the BBQ portions of their menu are limited.
