Sea Life Michigan Aquarium Seeking Young Environmentalists

SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium, the 35,000-square-foot aquarium set to open in Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in early 2015, announced today it is hosting a contest to select 12 Michigan children to join its Young Environmentalist panel. The Young Environmentalists will serve as student ambassadors and help educate the community about SEA LIFE’s local and global conservation efforts. SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium General Manager Hayley Townsend made the announcement.

SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium is asking local children ages 8 to 12 who are passionate about the sea and its creatures to submit entries via Facebook to earn a spot on the Young Environmentalist panel. Those selected will win a SEA LIFE Michigan Annual Pass, be one of the first to preview the new attraction before it opens to the public, and be invited to participate in special events throughout the year. They will also help communicate SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium’s conservation messages to the community, and join in a variety of special environment-related activities during their “year in office.”

“Our goal at SEA LIFE is to not only educate guests about the importance of conservation, but to actually inspire them to take an active role in the environmental protection mission,” said Townsend. “The Young Environmentalist panel will help us engage the support of the Michigan community through the passionate young people who will be the future protectors of our waters.”

To enter, children need to submit a photo of an artistic creation based on the sea—it can be anything including a drawing, a painted picture, a Lego or Play-Doh model, or other art pieces. Along with their creation, children need to submit a 100-word essay explaining why he/she loves the sea. A full explanation and submission form can be found here: http://bit.ly/SEALIFEMIYoungE. The deadline to enter is November 16.
