Snow Ice Cream Recipe – Here’s a recipe that I’m sure is centuries-old in many variations. Snow Ice Cream is a great way to enjoy the abundance of Michigan snow and a great recipe for kids to try on snow days!
INGREDIENTS
- 5 cups of fresh snow
- 1 cup of cream or milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (optional)
DIRECTIONS
Gather snow by removing top layer and scooping up some fresh snow. Pack the snow in a bowl. Add milk, sugar, vanilla, and cocoa powder if desired. Mix and serve immediately. Do not overmix… it will melt too quickly.
Note – you cannot store snow ice cream or freeze for later. It will turn solid. And, if you don’t eat it right away, it will melt into a liquid.
Snow Ice Cream Variations
I used Coconut milk so it would be dairy free and I enjoyed it. Other variations to add to the snow ice cream include…
- using chocolate syrup
- make it an adult version – add Kahlua
- make a healthier version using half cane sugar and half coconut sugar
- add lemon extract
- add almond extract
- add flavored coffee creamer
- use half and half or heavy whipping cream instead of the cream or milk
Head outside, grab some snow, and make your own snow ice cream recipe!
