Talking Roller Coasters with Cedar Point General Manager Jason McClure

I had the opportunity to interview Cedar Point General Manager Jason McClure when I was at Cedar Point recently for a Media Day. I asked him about the latest new rides,¬†and what’s to come at Cedar Point in the future. Here’s what he had to say…

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms: What was the inspiration behind the new rides, the Lake Erie Eagles and the Pipe Scream?

Cedar Point General Manager Jason McClure: These are great family rides. We wanted to bring some family experience to the park… a new family experience…that kids who are a little too big for the children’s rides, but not quite ready for Millenium, will really have a good time and enjoy. And, their parents will have fun with them. And, Pipe Scream especially… that’s a parent who loves rides is going to have a great time riding it with their kids because it packs a little bit of a punch. It’s a unique experience in the park. You’ve got that coaster track, but you’re spinning at the same time.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms: So… anything new scheduled for 2015 (wink, wink)?

Cedar Point General Manager Jason McClure: Yeah, we’ve got lots of cool new stuff scheduled for 2015, but we’re not ready to talk about much of it yet. The Hotel Breakers project though, we started it this year. We did all the exterior renovations this winter. And, next winter, we’ll do all the interior renovations. We’re really excited about the Hotel Breakers for 2015, and we definitely have some things planned inside Cedar Point, too. And, some time a little later in the summer we’ll be ready to launch all that information.

Lisa LaGrou Oakland County Moms: Any plans for any record breaking rides on the horizon?

Cedar Point General Manager Jason McClure: You know, we plan out 5-7 years. Gatekeeper, last year, was our new record breaking coaster. And, as soon as we opened it up, we went right to the drawing board and started working on the next one. We love doing it. It’s exciting for us to get involved and figure out which we ideas that we can pull off and keep our fans at Cedar Point excited that this is the place to come for cool roller coaster experiences.
