I’m not saying I’ve become a ball snob, but I will admit that it’s like playing a different game if you use older, more worn out tennis balls. It’s just easier to play with fresh tennis balls. However, I am not a wasteful person and the idea of popping open a new can of tennis balls every couple matches did not seem practical.
I stumbled upon this Tennis Ball Saver on Amazon when I was looking for tennis type gift items for a friend. The Tennis Ball Saver is a pressurized tennis ball storage case that keeps balls bouncing like new. It holds three tennis balls. You simply insert the tennis balls into the Tennis Ball Saver and screw it closed until you reach the point where the balls are under equal internal and external pressures preventing air from seeping in and out of pores. There are lines/markings on the canister showing how far to twist it closed. PRO TIP – they require quite a few twists.
Before ordering this, I wasn’t sure if it was some kind of gimmick with a bunch of fake or incentivized Amazon reviews. But, for the price, it was worth a try. I was pleasantly surprised. The first thing I noticed was that when you twist open the Tennis Ball Saver to retrieve the tennis balls, you will hear the poof of air as if you’re opening a new can. Then when I tried bouncing the tennis balls, they had a great bounce. I would say that I could easily use the same tennis balls for three weeks or so before feeling the need to get another can of new tennis balls.
To me, that’s worth it. I bought a second tennis ball saver so I could always have six decent tennis balls on hand while playing rather than just three. Some of my friends have also been impressed by the Tennis Ball Saver so I’ve purchased the Tennis Ball Saver for them as a gift.
The Tennis Ball Saver is made in the USA and is about the same size as a can of tennis balls, so it’s easy to carry around in your tennis bag, just as you would a can of tennis balls.
