Union Woodshop Clarkston Review – Pics

Union Woodshop Clarkston MI Review, pics, and menu info. As seen on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Kid Rock, Union Woodshop serves BBQ food to throngs of people 7 days a week.

I ventured out several times to get a review…it was difficult because of the hours (they don’t serve lunch) and dinner time is ALWAYS a wait. It took us more than two years of sporadic attempts to actually get there without a 45 minute wait! Union Woodshop Clarkston works on the pager system, and the hostess mentioned that she’s only seen one day in the last three years she’s worked there when she did not have to use the pagers.

UNION WOODSHOP CLARKSTON PICS

Union Woodshop is the place for the smoked meats and your favorite BBQ.

If you’ve seen it on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, you know what the Union Woodshop Clarkston is all about. Kid Rock himself even made an appearance on Diners, Drive Ins and Drives to show Guy Fieri all around Union Woodshop, one of his faves as well. On the Triple D, they featured The Porker — a house ground pork patty, house made MI maple bacon, house made hot link, pickled chilies, Woodshop cold smoked cheddar, and South Carolina mayo.

The meats at Union Woodshop are smoked for 10-14 hours and done right there at the restaurant. Each table is set with several sauces that can be enjoyed with the meats – mainly brisket, chicken and pulled pork. Union Woodshop’s five regional sauces available at the table include regional selections, e.g. Memphis, TN style with tomato and vinegar, Lockhart, TX sauce which is more spicy and made with chipotle, Holly Hill, SC which is made with mustard and vinegar, Decatur, AL is a thin mayo based peppery and tart sauce with just a touch of horseradish, and China Town, NYC which is a street food favorite with hoisin and ginger. Two more sauces that aren’t at the table are the Raleigh, NC thin vinegar based sauce that is tangy and spicy and Hell, MI which is made with ghost chili plus four others, capsaicin extract, red stag and local maple syrup. All of the sauces are fantastic and we could barely determine a favorite. They are all so different… it’s not like you’re trying to decide which tomato based bbq you like best – the mild, medium or hot. At Union Woodshop, you’re looking at vinegar based, mayo based, mustard based, etc.

Union Woodshop Clarkston Menu item sides are several, and tasty. I had the collard greens (best I’ve ever had) and the cheesy potatoes which were also excellent. The portion sizes are fair to decent, however my husband ordered the brisket and that portion size was recognizably smaller and he was left wanting more.

Union Woodshop in Clarkston has an affordable kids menu. Options include a hot dog, chicken tenders, grilled cheese, pizza, burger, and the infamous Mac n cheese. The kids meals at Union Woodshop are served with a fruit or vegetable and a pop cup. The main menu items at Union Woodshop include salads, smoked meats, a couple burgers including the Juicy Lucy and The Porker which was featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. The Union Woodshop uniquely finds ways to fit in BBQ smoked meats and sausage links into many of the menu items. There is also a separate Gluten Free menu at Union Woodshop in Clarkston.

Desserts at Union Woodshop offer many fun selections like a brownie skillet made with nitrogen ice cream and chocolate sauce, Deep fried twinkie, Cobbler, Ice cream sandwich trio, Butterscotch sundae, and a Cupcake trio from the union general located nearby. All sounded excellent, but I was too full to try anything.

Don’t look for a quiet night out if you want to go to the Union Woodshop Clarkston for BBQ. The restaurant is ALWAYS packed and the atmosphere is loud and festive. The trendy decor and soft lighting are a nice touch. The upstairs bar has a nice lounge area with pool tables and offers a quieter retreat than the restaurant.
