Bloomer Park Sled Hill / Bloomer Park Sledding Hill
Bloomer Park sledding hill features 3 sledding runs on the large sled hill with walkways between each hill for kids to climb after their sled run. The sled runs themselves are man-made concave runs in the soil of the hill that get nice and slippery from a good snow fall. The groove of the hill makes it so sleds aren’t pinballing all over the place. For the walk back up the hill, kids use the elevated path next to the concave part of the sled run which is covered in vegetation and easy to climb. This makes it very outlined, and very safe.
On the weekends, there’s usually (but not always) a park attendant parked nearby the sled hill making sure conditions are OK and everything is going well.
I really enjoy that the hills are steep enough for fast sledding and each hill is divided by a walkway that makes it safe for even young riders. It’s very well organized. Some sledding hills in Metro Detroit can be a bit chaotic… even a little dangerous. The way the the Bloomer Park hill is organized and outlined makes it easier (and safer).
We’ve been to this sled hill many times and we’ve never had to experience any long waits to sled. The lines move pretty quickly and the sledding very well-organized. The only downside of sledding at Bloomer is that there is a bit of a hike to reach the hill from the parking lot (but not a big deal) and restrooms aren’t conveniently located. This could be a bummer if you have small kids. On the plus-side, at least Bloomer Park HAS restrooms to use and they are heated.
Bloomer is open from 8a-Dusk during the winter. On Saturdays and Sundays there is usually a park attendant in the main booth and admission is 5 dollars. If you go during the week, you likely won’t encounter anyone taking toll money – The City of Rochester Hills is sporadic as to when they pay people to take park entry fee money. They won’t open the sled hills to the public unless conditions are ideal for sledding. A sign will be posted at the empty booth notifying you of sledding conditions once you enter the park. Once you enter the park, cross the main parking lot and veer off to the right to follow the path to parking for the Bloomer Park sled hill.

Bloomer Park sledding hill is a pretty fast sled hill. If you have kids that are small, maybe 4 years old and under, it may be a bit too fast. A good alternative to the sledding hill at Bloomer Park for smaller kids is just up John R Road @ Hamlin Road at Borden Park. Borden Park features a long man-made hill that surrounds the park that makes a great smaller sled hill for little kids.
