Lake Orion Fireworks 2020

Lake Orion Fireworks 2020 – The annual “Dueling Fireworks” fireworks display on Lake Orion was cancelled due to Covid-19 but fireworks will take place for 2020 on the lake. A “private” fireworks show will take place on July 4th, 2020 on the East side of the Lake at Green’s Park off of M-24 at dusk.

The Lake Orion Fireworks Association raises money each year for the large “Dueling Fireworks” display where fireworks are launched from both sides of the lake and had to cancel the show for 2020 due to covid and the lack of time to raise enough money during the uncertainty of the pandemic. A GoFundMe campaign was launched that raised enough money for a smaller show. The LOFA sought permission for the smaller show which will be “private” and for residents that live on Lake Orion.

Green’s Park, a popular viewing spot for previous shows, will be closed to prevent large crowds. This action is similar to one Independence Township (Clarkston) is taking to their Pine Knob Fireworks show. This year Independence Township had to cancel their Independence Fest carnival and fireworks show but will launch fireworks on July 3 from high atop Pine Knob for residents to enjoy (details). DTE & Pine Knob parking lots will be closed (like Green’s Park) to prevent crowds from gathering. Unlike the Pine Knob fireworks… Lake Orion is taking precautions not to advertise they are hosting fireworks for fear of large crowds gathering amidst covid.

So, long story short in Lake Orion… Money was raised to host a smaller fireworks display. Permission was granted by Lake Orion Village Council to host a smaller fireworks display. Council officials are worried a lot of people will show up. Council officials don’t really want anyone to know about the show unless you live on Lake Orion… even if you don’t live on Lake Orion and have donated money to the 2020 fireworks display. In other words… money was raised for a fireworks show they didn’t expect would happen but is happening and now they don’t really want anyone to know about them. I’d hazard to guess that if you’re driving around on M-24 near Clarkston Rd at dusk on July 4, you’ll see fireworks over the lake.

The Lake Orion Fireworks Association works tirelessly year-round to raise money for the large “Dueling Fireworks” display. The Dueling Fireworks display was originally scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2020. You can donate to their cause by visiting lakeorionfireworks.org.

UPDATE 7/3/20 – The LOFA updated their website with the following… “There will be a private firework show on Saturday, July 4, 2020. For those attending the private show, masks and social distancing should be observed. However, there is no public viewing in the Village of Lake Orion.
