Lost Lake Nature Park features nighttime sledding on one of Metro Detroit’s best sled hills.

Our absolute favorite sled hill is Lost Lake Nature Park in Oakland twp – a 55 plus acre park in Oakland that features hiking, wildlife observation, shore fishing and some of the finest sledding in Michigan.

Lost Lake Sled Hill Oakland Twp Video

The sledding hill is well-organized and well-taken care of and well-maintained. This is because the park has its own caretaker that lives in the park. The hill is steep and fast! The sled hill is wide enough to accommodate numerous sledders at once and fast enough to thrill kids and adults. There are well organized boundaries and a separate walkway up the hill for safety purposes. Seating areas and picnic tables dot the landscape and there is even a toasty warming shelter to rest in. You can also rent the warming shelter for private sledding parties. The sledding fun isn’t limited to daylight hours. Lost Lake Nature Center offers night sledding on Friday and Saturday evenings until 9p courtesy of the numerous tree top lamp towers that light up the sled hill. Other park amenities include portable toilets and graded parking.

The trails throughout the park are excellent for viewing seasonal wildlife. Shore fishing is permitted with a valid license on the beautiful Lost Lake situated at the front of the park. The trails are wide enough snow-shoe in the winter months. Path access also reaches Green Lake toward the southern end of the property.

The warming shelter is a true gem. It’s parked conveniently at the bottom of the hill. It’s well-lit and VERY cozy and comfortable. The lost lake sled hill staff keep it balmy warm and even set out a few tables and chairs to relax at. If you’re not sledding and want to hang out supervise while your kids go up and down the sled hill, it’s a more than adequate place to “hang out”. I wish it was equipped with restrooms, but it isn’t. Restrooms are portable outhouses near the bottom of the hill.

The night lights at Lost Lake sled hill light up the hill very nicely. Fair warning, it’s not one of (if not THE) best sled hills in Oakland County for nothing… it’s a steep climb… but great exercise. If you have smaller children, you might want try the smaller hill off to the side. Even the bigger kids get winded going up and down the large hill at Lost Lake… but that’s a good thing.

Bring your own sled. They don’t have any to rent (or sell)… and ALWAYS call the hotline before you venture out. Lost Lake Park Sled Hill Hotline is 248-651-4440 ext 299.
