All local parades have been canceled for 2020 but there are virtual events being hosted by cities so we can honor those who have the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Other cities are asking everyone to decorate their yards patriotically. MORE INFO

Rochester Memorial Day Events

Rochester / Rochester Hills Memorial Day Event – Greater Rochester Memorial Events
Mayor Stuart Bikson will commemorate Memorial Day this year with a video address in lieu of the ceremony at Mount Avon Cemetery to help encourage and maintain social distancing. The video will be broadcast at 9a on May 25 and posted to the City’s webcasts and the City’s YouTube Channel. The cemetery will remain open and the City will still be placing flags at the veterans graves. You can watch Comcast Channel 17 & WOW Channel 10 for rebroadcasts of this event.

The annual observance of Memorial Day in Shain Park includes addresses by the Mayor and State Representative, patriotic music, and introduction of veterans. For more information, contact 248-258-9007. For 2020, this will be a live facebook event on the City of Birmingham Facebook Page.

Memorial Day Weekend Events 2020 – BEACHES & PARKS

The Metroparks – All 13 Metroparks are open for fun this holiday weekend. Disc Golf just opened at parks with courses, golf is and will remain open, beaches are open (at Kensington, Stony Creek, & Lake St Clair), grills are open, picnic areas are open. Nature centers, boat rentals, and playgrounds ARE NOT yet open. Pools remain closed for now. Park officials are asking that 6ft social distancing parameters are to be followed. MORE INFO

Oakland County Parks – 9 Oakland County Parks will be open with FREE admission this holiday weekend. Addison Oaks, Catalpa Oaks, Highland Oaks, Lyon Oaks, Independence Oaks, Orion Oaks, Red Oaks, Rose Oaks, and Waterford Oaks. Enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, disc golfing, dog walking, kayaking and more. Dog parks, waterparks, nature centers, and restrooms remain closed. MORE INFO

Spencer Park – Spencer Park in Rochester Hills will be open for Memorial Day Weekend (with discounted vehicle admission) but swimming, concessions, and boat rental will remain closed through June 12 (pending changes). MORE INFO

Deer Lake Beach – Deer Lake Beach in Clarkston is closed for Memorial Day but hope to be open for 4th of July weekend. MORE INFO

Memorial Day Weekend Events 2020 – FARMERS MARKETS

Northville Farmers Market is hosting the Annual Northville Flower Sale on May 22 & May 23 (9a-6p FRI & 9a-4p on SAT). The market is located at the Corner of 7 Mile and Sheldon in Northville. Homeowners can find a wide array of locally-grown flowers and more that will brighten their yards at Northville’s Annual Flower Sale. The colorful annual event will have Northville once again blooming, as over 560 feet of the Market lot will be paved with beautiful ornamental accent plants, perennials, herbs, annuals, roses, shrubs, exotic plants, and trees from local growers and greenhouses, many of whom are vendors at the Northville Farmers’ Market. royal oak farmers marketThe Royal Oak Farmers Market (316 E 11 Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI, 248-246-3276) will be open from 7a-1p on Saturday, May 23.

The Holly Farmers Market (Crapo Park, 201 Baird St, Holly, MI 48442) will be open on Sunday, May 24 from 10a-2p.

The Farmington Farmers Market (Sundquist Pavilion in Riley Park, Grand River Avenue at Grove Street
Farmington, MI) will be open on May 23 from 9a-2p but have very restrictive rules in place for shoppers due to covid-19 concerns. MORE INFO…

The Birmingham Farmers Market (666 North Old Woodward Ave, Birmingham, MI 48009) will be open on Sunday, May 24 from 9a-2p. The Birmingham Farmers Marketmarket is operating as a drive-thru market due to covid-19.

WATERPARKS AND SPRAY PADS

All area waterparks, spray pads and pools that usually open for Memorial Day weekend are closed. MORE INFO
