Oakland County Parks Offers FREE Admission During Coronavirus – CANCELED

Oakland County Parks Offers FREE Admission During Coronavirus – FREE park entry for all Oakland County Parks is being offered by the OC Parks Dept through May 31 due to concerns with Coronavirus / Covid-19.

Oakland County Parks has canceled all events, programming, and mobile recreation services through May 31. The OC Farmers Market will remain open during this period, but no food tasting by vendors will be allowed. Other parks facilities that will be closed will include the Red Oaks Nature Center at Red Oaks County Park, the Wint Nature Center inside Independence Oaks County Park, the Springfield Oaks Activity Center, and the Waterford Oaks Activity Center & Lookout Lodge located at Waterford Oaks County Park.

UPDATE – 3/21 – While the parks will be open with FREE admission, use of playground equipment and playscape areas will be prohibited. “The Oakland County Health Division today issued emergency orders to close all shopping malls, playground equipment and require all childcare centers to develop and implement a daily screening protocol for children, staff, parents and visitors to reduce the transmission of the coronavirus.”

UPDATE – 3/23 – The Oakland County Parks Dog Parks will be closed until further notice. The Oakland County Health Officer has decided that due to the nature of dog parks, residents would be unable to maintain a safe social distance to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The rest of the parks, but not the playgrounds, will continue to remain open and with FREE admission.

UPDATE – 5/5 – Oakland County Parks is extending FREE admission to Addison Oaks, Catalpa Oaks, Highland Oaks, Independence Oaks, Lyon Oaks, Orion Oaks, Red Oaks, Rose Oaks, and Waterford Oaks County Parks through May 31. The Dog Parks REMAIN closed as do the nature centers at Red Oaks & Waterford Oaks and all playgrounds. “Our visitor numbers have increased three-fold for this time of year based on car counts,” Parks Executive Officer Dan Stencil said. “It’s obvious people are enjoying a place to stretch their legs and get outdoors with their immediate family. And, we have observed that our guests are taking the call to social distancing seriously. Their diligence played a part in our decision to extend the free park entry.”

UPDATE FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND – FREE Park entry all weekend at 9 Oakland County Parks – Addison Oaks, Catalpa Oaks, Highland Oaks, Lyon Oaks, Independence Oaks, Orion Oaks, Red Oaks, Rose Oaks, and Waterford Oaks. Enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, disc golfing, dog walking, kayaking and more. Dog parks, waterparks, nature centers, and restrooms remain closed.

UPDATE 6/5 – FREE park admission at Oakland County Parks has ended and they will begin charging regular rates for park entry. Daily park entry is just $5/vehicle for Oakland County residents; non-residents pay $12. Seniors ages 62 and older, persons with disabilities, military personnel and veterans pay $4/vehicle.
