Metroparks Syruping Events 2024 – Learn all about maple syruping events at Sap to Syrup events hosted by the Metroparks.

As winter gives way to the early whispers of spring, the enchanting world of maple sugaring comes to life in the Metroparks. Embark on a journey through the sweet transformation from sap to syrup, as the maple sugaring season unfolds. To celebrate the sweet season, the Metroparks have curated a delightful array of programs to immerse visitors in this age-old tradition; keep reading to learn more about all they have scheduled or explore all programs at metroparks.com/maple

Metroparks Syruping Events 2024

All month long the Metroparks will celebrate the season by offering outdoor programs to take you into the sugar bush and learn the history of maple sugaring and how maple syrup is made.

Journey to the Sugarbush | Hudson Mills Metropark – Late February / March Weekends – Find & Register for Maple Syrup Programs Here

Take a short journey to Sugarbush and experience how maple syrup has been made over the years. Learn how to tap a tree, and then visit the evaporator to see the sap being boiled into syrup. There is no better way to finish out the cold days of winter and get ready for spring.

Maple’s Sweet Story | Kensington Metropark – Late February / March Weekends – Find & Register for Maple Syrup Programs Here

Take a guided walk through the farm’s Sugar Bush. Learn how to pick the right maple tree, then watch how maple trees are tapped and sap is collected. Stop by the French and Native American camps to hear and see how these techniques have changed through the years. Then visit the Sugar Shack to see and smell the sap being boiled down into maple sugar.

Maple Sugaring Through the Ages | Oakwoods Metropark – Early March Weekends – Find & Register for Maple Syrup Programs Here

Come see the methods used to collect maple sap and learn how the maple tree helped sustain early Americans. We will begin indoors learning about the history of maple sugaring before heading outside to visit three sugaring “camps.” While visiting these camps we will discover how maple sugaring has changed, and in many ways stayed the same, throughout history.

Come join the Metroparks to learn about the crop rich in history and flavor. Enjoy a tractor drawn wagon ride to the sugar shack where you will see their wood-fired evaporator in action and discover how to turn sap into the sweet treat we all know and love, syrup! You will see how to identify and tap maple trees too.

Metroparks Syruping Events 2024 – Self-Guided Maple Sugaring Hikes

If you can’t make it to one of the in-person outdoor programs (or maybe prefer to do it on your own time), the Metroparks’ Interpretive Centers are offering a self-guided hike option again this year. Look for the sign that marks the beginning of the trail and then hike until you find each trail stop, scan the QR codes, and learn more about this seasonally sweet treat, right on your smartphone.
