Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms is awarded a Media Advocate Award from Michigan Recreation and Parks Association.
I started Oakland County Moms (as RochesterMoms.com) 10 years ago to provide the community with local happenings and information about family related businesses that they could benefit from. One of the first collaborations I developed was with the Oakland County Parks. The staff at Oakland County Parks worked closely with me to keep me informed about park events and community activities they offered. Oakland County Moms has continued to list the Oakland County Parks info here.
Considering the goals of my website and the Oakland County Parks offerings, our collaboration has been a natural fit since day one. I’m happy to be a part of providing this information to the community, and letting them know about all the family fun available that makes Oakland County a great place to live.
I received a phone call recently from the Oakland County Park office that I had been nominated for an award by their staff, and had won! The award is the 2015 Media Advocate Award from Michigan Recreation and Parks Association. The description for the award is “The Media Advocate award highlights a member of the media community who has been a vocal supporter of parks and recreation. Nominees may be a member of any media community, including television, radio, newspaper, online publication, etc. The Media Advocate Award allows MRPA members to thank media professionals who understand the importance of local parks, recreation programs and facilities.”
I don’t do what I do in hopes to earn awards, so this was more than a pleasant surprise. Winning this award is an incredible honor, and I am grateful to have such a fantastic working relationship with the Oakland County Parks staff so that we can make this all happen for our community, year after year.
Thank you, Destination Oakland! Let’s keep up the good work!
