Tuesday, December 31, 2019 (New Year’s Eve) – Oakland County Parks and Recreation celebrates Guest Appreciation Day by offering free daily park entry on December 31. Experience natural areas, trails and all park amenities at Addison Oaks, Highland Oaks, Independence Oaks, Lyon Oaks, Orion Oaks and Rose Oaks county parks. Visitors can enjoy free daily park entry with access to natural areas, trails, dog parks and all park amenities. Park hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, or as posted at the park. For more info, call 1-888-OCParks

Oakland County Parks Christmas Tree Recycling
Follow drop-off signs at Christmas tree recycling sites – Addison Oaks, Catalpa Oaks, Glen Oaks Golf Course, Groveland Oaks, Independence Oaks-North, Lyon Oaks (Park), Oakland County Farmers Market, Orion Oaks, Red Oaks Golf Course, Springfield Oaks (Park) and White Lake Oaks Golf Course. In return for recycling a Christmas tree, the Oakland Conservation District will distribute FREE white pine seedlings on Saturday, May 2, 2020, 10a-2p, 1580 Scott Lake Road, Waterford. No charge to drop off trees, no commercial trees accepted, plastic, tinsel and wire must be removed.

Begin by learning how to operate ice fishing equipment, make a jig lure, practice fishing knots, observe an auger demonstration and try to reel in some fish. Oakland County Parks Events – Bluebird Nest Box Season Kick-Off
Wint Nature Center (9501 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston, MI, 248-625-6473)
Be a Citizen Scientist. Oakland County Parks and Recreation manages nest boxes at seven parks for the Eastern Bluebird and other cavity-nesting native birds. Nest boxes are monitored by trained volunteers. Information about the birds, monitoring techniques and other volunteer requirements will be presented. Volunteers are asked to check nest boxes routinely from March-August. Nests are tracked in NestWatch through Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Training is free and open to the public.
